I have a model 700 sporting an 18'' .308 1-8 twist barrel by AAC. I also have a decent selection of 200+ grain 30-cals to play around with... 208 A-Max, 220SMK, 220gr Sierra Pro Hunter, Hornady 225gr HPBT, and a pile of blemished 240gr SMK. Powders on hand: 4895, 4064, 4166, BLC2, CFE223, TAC, & Varget.

Hodgdon lists data for the 208 A-Max utilizing several of the powders I have on hand so I do have a decent starting point to work from..... I'm just really looking forward to see how some of the other 220-240gr bullets are going to shoot.

So here I am wondering what direction some of you fellas might pursue given the components listed. My only real goal for now is to get a couple nice shooting 220+gr loads put together, and see what kind of velocities they're going to produce out of this 18'' barrel.... Thanks for your time & input!

Visit snipers hide and look, I have read about some heavies with pp2000mr getting really good velocities without excessive pressure

I have yet to try them though

The 1in8" was intended to stabilize heavy subsonic rounds...

The 1 in 8'' was intended to stabilize any 30-cal bullet. They wouldn't have cut them at 18'' if they were designed exclusively for subs. Robert Silvers from AAC designed these barrels & when you read over the threads from Silencer Talk & 300blktalk - it's clear he was just trying to produce a barrel that would handle any 30 caliber projectile well - subs or supers.

What exactly do you hope to achieve with ths setup?

I don't have any big goals penciled out yet surrounding this 'setup'. It's a rifle that may shoot heavy-for-caliber bullets well..... So I suppose I'm trying to achieve that.

I had good accuracy in my 20" 12 twist shooting 200 and 208 grain Hornady with powder ranging from A-2496(4895 clone) to PP-2000MR.

220-240 grain bullets will be far too long for .308. The 208 is close enough to 200 to not matter. The others are for .30-06 and the silly magnums.
IMR4064 is your friend though.

Do some reading on RL17 and the heavies, specifically the 208 AMAX. There was quite a bit done a few years back and it looked interesting.
Curious as to your goal in this endeavor. I like the 155 168 and 175 personally. 308 needs all the help it can get lol, and going up in weight just isnt doing it any favors.

The 185 Juggernaut is a bullet may be worth looking into for you as well.

I imagine you will be able to find acceptable accuracy with some experimentation, but velocity will leave a lot to be desired as you just do not have enough cartridge for those heavy bullets.
