Got it ten years ago tried it then ,it was shooting off so it sat in the safe for years. Finally took it out yesterday sighted it in at 100 yards, I can keep 10 shots in the circle with plain ammo so I'm satisfied. Got to say now that it is shooting like I want it is fun to go old school even though the new ones are really better. Lots of oh's and ah's from others at the range looking at it lol. A couple of guys there reminisced saying how they carried the original M16. It was made in 1973.

For 1973 production, I'm guessing that it has the notorious "beveled" bolt carrier and "notched" hammer, if those haven't been replaced by a previous owner.

I bought my first SP1, new, in 1968 for $215. That was a lot of money in those days, especially for me as a 23 year old law student. I bought my second one, previously owned but practically unfired, in 1971 for $295. Neither gun had those above-mentioned features. I still have both of them.

(The reason that a used SP1 cost more in 1971 than a new one cost in 1968 was that 1971 was during the hiatus during which Colt had pulled them off the market. People didn't know when, if ever, they would return. So it was a case of artificial scarcity.)

Nice. Purchased one last year for a great great price, then recently sold it. Serial points to 1974 production
Love the slick upper n lower

Nice. Enjoy your rifle. I purchased one used in the late eighties. I eventually sold it not long before the ban expired. It's one I still sort of wish I had.
