Rock Island armory revolver's?

My first one wouldn't lock properly so RIA replaced it. The second one wasn't closing its cylinder correctly so I fixed that myself. It's a squeeze-gun. Point, scream "that's my purse!", and squeeze. I'd save a few more bucks and get a Taurus 85, much more options for grips and you can get it in stainless for almost the same price.

To me a wood's gun is preferable in stainless, which largely shrugs off the weather and can be easily refinished or even better. I did buy a Taurus last gun I got, the OP's statement about looks is why - full shroud, where the J frame isn't. Sometimes it's that simple. Since it isn't a woods gun, more for concealed, it got the "black" finish which some decry as being to inexpensive. Yet I have yet to see the classic "blue" become anything but rust if actually used and carried.

What cartridge to use is another decision. .357 in a lighter gun is usually one of those things explained as "you can if you have it, but most of us don't in real life." Hence a LOT of comments on line they shoot .38 for practice and many choose +P for carry. At that point you have to ask, why not 9mm - in moon clips?

That would be my next choice in a revolver, in stainless with boot grips. Likely a Ruger. It won't be $220 off gunbroker, tho. Oh well. Maybe Colt will step up - they are now back in production with their snub nose. Another choice. Can there be too many?

The Taurus 905 was on my list of revolvers that I wanted to get, behind the Ruger SP101 in 9mm.

I thought even if the 905 developed a problem, Taurus had a lifetime warranty, and its not my EDC so I can afford to send the gun back and forth to Taurus and be without it for 6 or 8 months until they finally fix it.

But the 905 is crossed off my list now...

I don't think Armscor is going to develop a 9mm revolver, but it sure would be cool if they did.

I handled the RIA .38 at a lgs last week. Didn't even know they existed before that. Did not like the finish and feel. I agree Taurus is better.

I used a Taurus 669 as my woods gun for years, like 20 or so. Got my G43 in September and haven't looked back. Much more comfy and still 6 rounds. Already have a good size moccasin that was allergic to 9mm slugs.

I think the LCR 9mm is just fine, I'm planning on getting one. I just don't think the SP101 in 9mm is worth the extra heft. I wish Armscor would make an 8 shot .22 revovler instead. Yeah, the DA would be really heavy, but pretty much every .22 LR DA revolver has a stiff DA trigger. At $250 the price would reflect the trigger quality.

I had a Taurus Public Defender on my list, but with the warranty situation and Taurus' QC, I'm not buying it new. I'll keep my eye out for a used one pre-2017 and Taurus can lose even more money.

For a long time Taurus was a non factor for me, but now they're in the same dumpsterfire where I put Springfield and Remlin.

I have the LCR in 9mm and it is a handful for me to shoot 147gr rounds out of it. I have yet to go to the range and shoot 115gr. Maybe the lighter bullets will be easier on my wrist.

I just want the Ruger SP101 because I like 9mm revolvers. I also have the original 6-shot Charter Arms PITBULL in 9mm.

I had stayed away from Taurus for my whole life, until I kept hearing good things about the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111. I wanted a cheap gun to put in a GHB, which I planned to keep in the trunk of my car, and the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 was selling for around $195.00 shipped. You can get 20-round Mec-Gar magazines for the Millennium G2. As far as I know, the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 was or maybe still is the only gun in the $190.00 price range that has that kind of capacity. I was really hesitant to purchase it for fear of it breaking and the thought that made me decide to get one was the Taurus lifetime warranty. I thought if something went wrong with the pistol I could temporarily use one of my other guns for the GHB. I purchased my Taurus Millennium G2 PT111 in July 2016, I'm hoping nothing ever goes wrong with it, but I expect Taurus to completely fix anything that does go wrong with it and I'm willing to hassle with them for however long it takes.

There is no way I would purchase a Taurus now for a truck gun or GHB, even though it's the only $190.00 gun that I know of, that you can purchase brand new that will accept 20 round mags.

I think the Armscor revolvers are going now for around $190.00 + S&H :)

All this talk about warranties if something goes wrong with a gun. The warranties are no good to you if you are dead, I'm thinking.
I'll just have a good gun in my trunk or under the seat if my loved ones and I may depend on it.

I wonder how many of you are aware that Ruger does not warranty any of their guns.

Ruger has been turning out a fair number of guns with problems needing to go back to the factory for repair. By most accounts Ruger has fixed them without any charge to the owner.

I have not read much about Taurus currently having quality control problems. Most of the stories are from in the past or just others piling on. I brought a Taurus M941 in 2013 that was so defective Taurus called me and replaced it with a new gun in just a few days.

I did not let Ruger putting a warranty on their SR22 to keep The Lady from buying one last month and I would not let the warranty or lack there of keep me from buying a Taurus if they have a model I wanted. New Smith & Wessons are probably lower on my list than Taurus.

Isn't Taurus the 3rd largest gun manufacturer in the United States?

i recently got this gently used taurus 85 regular weight for $180. i put 500 rounds through in the past two months. it is a really nice little shooter: handy, smooth, accurate and reliable.

in 38sp snubbies i’ve shot a charter arms, handled an eaa windicator and ria, had (and moved on) a new ruger lcr, and still own a used s&w 642 as well as two taurus 85s, which are my favorites.

Are you saying you had a Ruger LCR and got rid of it?

I have the LCR in 9mm and it has a better trigger than the Armscor / RIA, the Charter Arms, or the Taurus. I even think it has a better trigger than the S&W 442, but that's just my opinion.

My LCR has a better trigger than the Taurus 85's I've owned.

One was steel with a hammer spur. It had a trigger almost as good as the LCR, but it was stolen in a burglary. I bought it brand-new in 1990 or so.

I have an ultra-light 85 that I gently removed the hammer spur from. It has a mediocre trigger, but it's a good shooter and I carry it in my back pocket when I walk the dogs.

I saw a steel-framed 85 with no hammer on Gunbroker that I figured I could win for $150 or less (and did). I just couldn't resist. The trigger is pretty stiff, but I had a nice Hogue monogrip and no gun that it would fit, so a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. It shoots okay for SD purposes, but I sure wish its trigger was like the one that was stolen.

I have never really understood by what is meant by "woods" and "roaming" gun. What is it that you are afraid off when in the woods?

Here in western Montana there are definitely things in the woods to be aware/afraid of. I really don't want to face a 900 pound Grizzly with a 2" snub .38!

Some dealers mark these up 50 dollars and then occasionally put them on sale for $200.00

Sometimes you can find them for $192.00 - $195.00 shipped.

Whenever I see a < $200 sale price special for an M206 I can usually find a non-sale price for them at right around that from some other gun dealer

I have never really understood by what is meant by "woods" and "roaming" gun.

I have a gun that I keep in my front pocket
I have a gun I keep in my back pocket
I have a loaded gun I keep in my car
I have an unloaded gun I keep in my car to transport in places that don't allow me to carry a loaded gun
I have a gun I keep in my Bug-Out-Bag
I have a gun I keep in my Get-Home-Bag
I have a gun I keep on the night stand
I have a gun I keep in the bathroom because I can't hear what's going on while I'm in the shower.

A "woods" gun is just another excuse to buy a gun.
