The Little Gun that Could-Shooting the Midland Backpack

Jeb,

Let us know how that 9 sillymeter tube shoots, please. I would try to insert it the same way every time, like with the label straight up for instance to see if it actually groups then rotate the thing to see if you can get it to group near the point of aim.

If they actually release say .357 barrels of this length in January for ShotShow and they ain't to painful to buy this gun looks very attractive. Shoot a .30-30 would be nice as well.

My only concern is the lack of an exposed hammer. One of the things I like about single shots is that they can be carried with a round in the chamber and the hammer not cocked. With this gun it appears either the shell is in a cocked gun and you have to depend on what appears to be a simple trigger block safety or the chamber is empty.

Well, you can see the adapter below. He is using the short version, Supposedly the 8" shoots even better. There are also video's of shooting the 45. 38, 22 and other gauges to include 28, Musket conversion as well.

Took the adapter (9mm) to the range. My first shot at 7 yds went right through the bulls eye. I quickly found 7 yds to be no contest. Ended up at 25 yds. It was easy to place groups in about 5-6" group. The biggest problem was just the need to practice shooting with a bead sight at that range. I was using the 8" adapter. Forgot to check where the label was placed. And obviously the recoil on this was nil and quiet.Felt like shooting a 22.mag if that. I had two range officers come over and ask to shoot it including one young lady that really liked it. I just placed a true Viz fiber optic on the gun, and am going back to the range tomorrow and try it out. Big difference in ability to see further down range. Now I really want to get the adapter in 45.cal. When the rifled barrels come out, I hope they will be grooved for a small scope or red dot.
What I really liked was how fast the gun shouldered for point and shoot. I had a really fun time shooting this gun. With the adapters really makes for a great bug out gun. From Musket to 22.cal to 12ga and every thing in between in a small light, simple to use package and well built.

Had this gun at the outdoor range the other day and shot the 9mm. Also had it out today at the indoor range and shooting 00 buck at 25 yards and very good groups with a modified choke. I will try and post some pics later of the targets. This gun shoots as good as any shotgun at 25 yds. I will try more yardage later. I was really surprised it shot this well. For sure would take down any deer at that range. And I was using cheap ammo.

Enjoy it I got a 20 gauge single shot M-88 H&R .
The thing I like most about this shotgun is the easy light weight carry. I have a Mossberg 20 ga with a 18" barrel and still this guns weights so much less and easy to go through the thick woods. And the groups are very tight and almost all the deer I have taken in the South have all been close up and with one shot. Glad yo like the M-88 H&R. There is something to be said about the simplicity of the single shot shotgun. Down the road, I do want a single Shot Henry in a center fire. Then again, if the rifled barrels come out, them just get that.
I went through a box of 25 rds of buck shot yesterday and could have kept on going. The Cauldwell shoulder pad is a huge help and worth the money.

Went Hunting in the am and stopped by the Nearby outdoor range. Put up a couple of target for the 9mm insert. Bottom target is the first target with the fiber optic I had just put on it. Forget it. Too big. Second target above with off. While this is obviously no target rifle, it is easy to hit center mass with a bead sight. Still want to try out the 45.cal.
When the center fire barrels arrive, I will definitely get the 357.
The inserts are good for a bug out gun. Always have plenty of 9mm. If there was a way to put a sight on the gun, the insert could do a very good job.

Bought this Khan about 15 years ago for $95. Pull trigger guard to fold. Added a slip on recoil pad and shell carrier.

Update. The Kahn is gone. I recently switched to 20ga from 12ga. Came across these Rock Island folding shotguns at Rural king for $89. There are 2 spacers in the butt stock that can be removed to shorten length.

FYI, the 12ga version comes with a choke tube that can be changed.

Interesting concept, not so much for the shotgun, but for the barrels that will supposedly come out in the future.
Pretty much. I'll gladly buy a 12 or .410 Midland shotgun to get the rifle barrels, but I think Midland came out with the shotguns first as Kahn in Turkey makes them, Midland just imports and distributes them and has been working on finding who to contract for the rifle barrels. I think what slowed Midland with the rifle barrels was the tariffs Trump put on steel and aluminum, so the original prices for the barrels went up.

You make a good point. Probably the reason. I will say, that when I bought the Midland, it was not just price that attracted me to the gun. It was the light weight and simplicity, quality of build etc.Ability to accept different chokes. When the new barrels come out, provided they do, I would pay more If the barrels were of good quality, and you could mount a light weight scope, I would bet they could be fine shooters. .

Now THAT would be a great feature on the Midland. From the pic above it looks like a rear sight and adjustable for height. Also Like the ventilated rib.(but that might be more added weight) I think the Shortlane 8" inserts might be better than I think. Just need a good set of sights. Something like a Skinner sight would be fantastic.

Is that a folding rear sight in red? What is it?

Rear sight with two different widths, Similar to AR style. overkill IMHO.

Why would it be over kill? The inserts are 8" long. Basically a 8" barrel. Pistols and revolvers have sights. What distance can a Pistol do with range? This is easier to shoot than a pistol. The Backpack does have a small grove in the receiver. Might be enough, as I am going to paint it. Again, I want to get a 357 or 45 cal insert. Can't make up my mind. And recoil from this gun should be very easy to handle, much more so than a pistol/Revolver. (STill would love to see the new center fire barrels come in.)

I will be picking one of these up after I see the interchangeable barrels they offer. If they end up having barrels in 7.62x39 and/or 30-30, I'll be ordering one. They look to be very well built for the price and threaded for chokes. Really good value IMHO. I would be tapping the barrel receiver for a red dot or low powered optic for the rifle rounds.

I wasn't referring to pistol caliber inserts. I was stating that an adjustable rear sight like in my post above(#39) was overkill. To me, the front sight bead is all that is needed on that shotgun.

I understood what you were talking about. And yes a bead sight is fine for a shotgun, But this gun with the ability to shoot both rimfire or center fire inserts can be target shot much like a Pistol or revolver with sights. Regardless, I am going to take the small grove as mentioned above and paint it. It might do a good enough job. I will take the gun out this weekend and do so practice with the 9mm.
