SXS: Lever to the right?

Good? Bad? I know it is saying the action opening lever points to the right but what exactly does that mean mechanically?

I have been looking at some used shotguns online and noticed some levers point straight down the stock and then some point left or right, with most being to the right. Some sellers point this out.

If it's to the right it is in the direction to open the gun. Usually means very little to no wear on the engaging mechanism. For guns that point straight down, they might be made that way from the beginning, but to the left usually means wear on the locking lugs and possible a worn out gun.

my singles trap browning BT-100 that has close to 50,000 rounds thru it and I only have had to clean it, no repairs at all. stays to the right with a soft or quick close.

Anson & Deeley has coil spring for lever to return though not sure if that ever gets tired. Unless the gun has "self-opening" mechanism I would say "twisting" barrels with forend off is better indication of wear than position of top lever.

the top lever moves the locking lug on brownings back to open the shotgun and the locking lug is tapered and as it wears it slides deeper into the barrel lug and as it does the lever will move to the left. twisting the barrels with the forend off will not show the amount of wear on the locking lug as its spring loaded and will keep the barrel-barrels locked to the receiver if not in need of replacement, it will however show the amount wear on the tronion pin if twisted when open.
