Sambar Stags on a S&W 686

Are you sure they're sambar? I am certainly no expert, but with my limited knowledge, and computer screen differences, they look like elk to me.

Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong... lol

In any event, they're great looking grips which do look good on your stainless gun!

Eagle Grips was a big maker of Sambar grip panels for a while (I have some for a 1911) ... Don't know if they're still in business, though.

Think Ajax also produced these.

Most of the Sambar stocks I've seen have more texture (ridges/indentations) and dark color in them. Could be elk. But real Sambar is worth some coin (though not nearly as much as ivory). Haven't checked the prices lately.

Nevertheless, I agree with the OP -- bone and antler grips look great on stainless guns.

jjj...

Sack Peterson uses elk but I believe he only makes grips for single actions. Might try contacting Grashorns Gun Works, Eagle Grips, or MD Grips as they all make elk grips for S&W L frames.
