My question is especially about current-production Ruger and S&W 10mm revolvers. Can they be made to headspace using the moon-clip and therefore accept a roll crip? I believe they can, and so then can the cartridges be roll-crimped?

If I recall correctly, I've seen the Ruger loaded and fired without moonclips, which suggests it was headspacing on the case mouth. But I don't think it could do this with .40 S&W, and therefore it must headspace 40 using the moonclip. If that can be done, can either of these cartridges also be roll-crimped?

One problem I suppose is that .400 bullets are unlikely to feature a crimp groove or cannelure.

Using moon clips, you can certainly roll crimp if desired. I had S&W 610 revolvers, a Ruger 38-40/10MM Blackhawk convertible, and semi-autos. I just taper crimped all my reloads, and used them interchangeably in revolvers and semis.

Just get a 10mm magnum ream done and live life to the fullest. Those GP100 10MMM (third M is for magnum) look sweet

The 10 Magnum makes a lot of sense, but where's the .400 bullets with crimp grooves?

Search for .38-40 bullets and you'll find a couple.

As long as you use proper reloading techniques and get good neck tension a roll crimp shouldn't be need. The increased diameter of the lead bullets helps hold the bullet in place to begin with.

Which seating die are you going to use that has a roll crimp?
