Perfect for shooting, in fact!

I took my Savage 12F/TR out today.
I have run out of the 75 grain HPBT and decided to try the slightly slipperier 75 grain Amax, I’ve had them for a while...:D
I loaded ten up in July, then life happened, and I sometimes lose focus.
To start I just put the new bullets in without changing a thing. (Now time lapse seven months in the closet..)

I took those ten out today in the glorious sun and got to see what would happen.
I only had a small break after my sons birthday party, so no chronograph or pistol breaks.:(

Not terrible! 13197332-C561-47E1-9F01-60A451087FDE.jpeg

I started with a turn to the right of five clicks.
The first shot landed low, with the next five grouping above it. I attribute this to a slight coating of one shot still in the bore after a single patch run through, fairly normal.

The seventh shot flew wild and landed in the bull, out of the group. The eight shot is the second one in the red with the ninth at the top right, and the final tenth going through the middle of the group. Gunk in the bore? An errant shaving of brass? The low shot is something I am used to, always the first one, always low. But to see it “walk” like that was interesting. I have shot a hundred rounds and have the groups be slightly larger at the end, from heat I assume, but they have not been that far away and “came back”.
Of course, it’s only ten! I’m not reading too far into it.:)
At any rate I’ll take it! It is enough to be impressive at the Shoot this weekend, with shotguns being the showcase. But I have new steel and a long field to use over there..

And with the heavy snow I don’t have to worry about ricochets...

Bullet butts?:D

Those Amax disintegrate! I am certain the ones I didn’t find did not make it through the ply wood intact, as the snow had a grey hue to it behind the target. I’ve gotten good at finding bullets in the snow and these few fragment are all I could locate. Perhaps the five that went through the hole?

I have a bunch of ammunition to load for the shoot in addition to the ninety I’ll bring for my Savage. I love letting others shoot it. The first one always gets them, with a twelve ounce trigger...;)
I’m always safe about I though, extra caution and warn them, but most don’t know how strong they are! Always fun too, because it makes anyone, even me, look like a pro it shoots so well.
Yea, Savage!

Well I better get started on it. I start with the .223 tonig.....

Aww... dang...:(

Well did you go out today? What did you shoot?
I’ll have to read it tomorrow morning, I have some furniture to put back...:D

Nope, Wednesday’s are my day at the range. LOL and if there is snow on the ground it’s too cold for me, so it’s the indoor range. Sure looks like you had a good day though.

It was too nice a day to be inside that’s for sure! I have the room cleaned out and some supplies readied for the shoot on Sunday.

There’s at least fourty turkeys going nuts out here this morning! I think they just beat up a Canadian goose!

I pulled a scope off one rifle and have it ready to go on an AR. I’ll zero it sometime this week.

Springs coming! Time to get out there!:)

OP, looks like you had fun!

I re-zero'd a rifle that I'd just swapped the mounts on.

Used my Leupold "Zero Point" boresighter reference sheet, so 6 rds total to confirm zero. I then shot 407 and 547yd steal swingers off my back deck to confirm and obtain chrono data for a couple loads at that temp.

Next SAT is supposed to be great also, so this week I'm going to re-barrel my 3Gun AR15, so I can at least zero it SAT, then start load development. Hopefully my current loads will be "close". Matches start in a couple months.

I’m glad you had nice weather. Me, I had 50 mph wind. Today thru Tuesday night I’m supposed to have 35 mph wind and I certainly have them right now. Oh well, I ‘m catching up on my gun tinkering and if the aluminum bar I have on order will show up today I’ll get a gadget I’ve dreamed up made to try out when the wind settles down.
