I had a discussion with a sales rep from Nighthawk Custom about 6 months ago. We had discussed a Bob Marvel Custom in 9mm. I never filled out an order form nor did I put down a deposit. And, the sales rep never returned my phone calls or responded to follow up emails. I moved on.

A couple of days ago I got an email, complete with pictures, telling me my pistol was ready. Imagine my surprise but, there it was built just like I had "ordered". Apparently, the salesman I spoke with no longer works there but he put the order in based on one phone conversation six months ago.

I probably should have passed under the circumstances but I went ahead and bought it. I got a substantial discount and the gun was just like I wanted to begin with. I will pick it up Wednesday. Straight to the range I will go!

Beautiful

I know if I had spent the time to call in the 1st place it would have been something I really wanted... but didn't rationalize the price enough to buy it. The discount is like a sign you should have it.

Looks really nice... congrats.

The mishap could be the result of paying commission on bookings rather than sales.

Phone conversations can be confusing at times which must be what happened. I didn't cast a vote in any of the categories listed my vote would have been "I would have bought depending upon the discount" which is what you did. My guess is that's a $2,000 dollar pistol and if the discount got it down to $1000 and it was made to your exact specs and money was no problem then yes I would have bought it.

I surveyed the third option.
Five thousand is too much for me.
Even with a substantial discount, that is three years of firearms saving for me. And then I would worry about scratching it.
I obviously can’t afford it.:(

But would love to!:)
Nice pistola! Range report inbound?:D
How’s the recoil system work?
Can they do basket weave instead of stippling?

I can’t even afford to look at guns like that. It’s nice, but I will never touch the trigger on one of those. This is one of those pistols I look at and wonder why? Sure it’s incredibly high quality craftmanship and components, but in my mind it’s like that $200000 Honda Civic racecar. It’s nice to see that some folks have the means to go to extremes on arms.

I would have been very distraught, inconvenienced, and upset over the circumstances, and would have explained to the rep that he/she should make it right by knocking $$$ off the price.:)

[EDIT] just seen that the OP did just that because he got a hefty discount.

Yes, I felt all of that. I could have walked away but figured I would never get the chance again.

I've been there too. Just not with a custom gun builder.

I was on the phone with the guy at my lgs talking about antique rifles one time. He called me 2 weeks later to tell me he bought an 1886 trapdoor springfield on an online auction for $700. $800 and a short drive later it's in my safe. Couldn't pass it up!
At the time I figured I'd never get a decent one for less than $1500.

This post was not for the purpose of discussing the merits of premium quality hand guns, rifles, cars, guitars or anything else. Those things are always going to exist and there is always going to be a market for them. They are not for everyone.

There are already millions of those kinds of threads where people "guffaw" the notion of spending big money on high quality. If you ever do get to touch the trigger on one of these (you can certainly shoot mine all you want) you will begin to understand why some with the means to do so, would buy one. And carry it daily as I will.

I would say something like this is more akin to an $85,000 Porsche rather than a $200,000 Honda. I sold several (I think 9) lesser/cheaper guns that I never shot to get this one that I have been wanting for years. As far as Nighthawk Custom goes, they are guaranteed for life, laser accurate, stupidly reliable. Perfect 3.5# trigger. Recoil system guaranteed for 10,000 rounds before it even needs a spring change, etc. on and on.

I have never heard anyone say they were sorry they bought a Nighthawk Custom. For me, it's worth it.

Keep them in the 10 ring brother.

years ago I put a car sale ad for $50.00 in a local newspaper. Autotrader called me and asked it I wanted to sell it in their paper for $200. I said no. Two weeks later I got a bill for $2000.00 for their premium listing, with a professional photographer apparently coming when I wasn't there. I told them to show me the contract I signed, or stop contacting me. They backed down. Sales guy's want their commission, and are not above fraud. Probably what happened in your case.

I'm too poor that my phone can't even dial their number...

Hopefully you got a good deal... a negative spin would be a "scam" and the positive spin a "surprise".

Guess you really wanted it!! Glad it worked out!!!

I would not say it was fraud in my case. Yours, yes. This sales guy "who is not longer there" may have built this with the intention of putting it in inventory if he could not sell it. Funny it was built to my exact specs. The shop manger was real nice and worked with me. He said he would put it in inventory if I did not want it. No pressure for me to buy it, other than what I put on myself!

I would still recommend Nighthawk Custom any day. I have a 45 ACP Heine Government my wife got for me for my military retirement. It has the Navy anchor engraved on the slide. I don't carry that one much but take it out and shoot it quite a bit.
