Hey HR, its been a long time since I have posted here... and I really didn't realize how large the forum was! So I figured I would add to this place with some really amazing pistols I have acquired over the years:).

First Ill start with a full boat Bob Marvel custom pistol. I stumbled onto this prize a few years back and had the chance to buy it. I seriously couldn't pass on it.

For me its a "Grail Gun". The fact that this gun was built by Bob in 1997 is seriously amazing. The attention to detail, the fit, the finish, the overall quality are things I just have not seen in a 1911 built in this era, obviously over 20 years ago.

The Spec sheet is as follows:
  • Caspian Slide to Frame Fit (SS Frame Carbon Slide)
  • Dlask Match Hammer and EG Sear - 2.5# Trigger Pull
  • S&A Beavertail Grip Safety
  • Flat Checkered MSH 19# Hammer Spring
  • 3/4Length Guide Rod with CP Buff Installed
  • Marvel Scale Cut Front Strap
  • Cross D/T Front Sight w/Red FO Rod
  • Kart Match Barrel WCPI Bushing
    • .0013 Fit
    • .906 Chamber
  • Bul Ambi Safety
  • 18# Recoil Spring
  • Marvel Scale Top Cuts
  • Low Mount and Protected Rear Sight with Trimmed Blade
  • 3 Fit and Tuned Mags
  • Marvel .22 D1972 with AS Rib
  • Three Magazines
  • Custom FO Front Sight
  • Three Extra Springs
  • Full takedown tools
The 1911 in hand feels unlike anything else I have in my stable (and I have some sweet blasters). From the innovative "Marvel Cut" (that isn't even listed as an option) to the custom texturing that screams Marvel, this pistol is fantastic!

To see the attention to detail and thought that Bob put into some of this stuff is really amazing. Just thinking outside of the norm for this era of a pistol is really refreshing for me. The full blending of the front sight (which a lot of custom builders still are not doing 20 years later) to seeing a front sight that was constructed by hand makes me appreciate the gun even more. Its also amazing to see the way its blended vs the work of today... It shows as an "all by hand files" blend vs off a mill, which again is pure craftsmanship... You can see from the pic of the grip safety... 100% True artistry!

For me, its safe to say, we just didnt see stuff like this happening in this era of 1911's (late 90's). In addition to that, the gun is a laser! It shoots so soft for a 45acp, which is a testament to Bobs built process and the way he fits a barrel. The amount of time that went into that alone is something... The pistol really is as fine of a 1911 as I have handled!

At the time of getting this gun, I had only ever seen one other full boat Marvel (1911) come up for sale - EVER. Other than that, these seemed and still seem like mythical objects to me.

Sadly, the test target from Bob was not kept... I would have love to have that paper work in the package... Its not the end of the world though.

Cheers:)

As a machinist, I am impressed with all the extra work for only aesthetic value. Looks great, you should post more if that’s the kind of stuff you’ve been holding out on us. ;)

Nice! I LIKE those grips!!!;):D (the ones in the last few pix)

I do too!! Brandan Bunker made them for me. IMO outside of Brain Challis, Bunker makes the the nicest 1911 grips. Folks like SK and Griff do a fine job, and Spegel can turn a set of BHP grips like no other... the Bunkers grips are just top notch!

I also like the fact that his grips are a bit oversized so they cover a little bit more of the frame. They aren’t cheap, but few things worth having are:)

Amazing pistol by on obviously gifted craftsman!!! I love the machine work on the top of the slide. I have serrated the tops of hundreds of slides, usually at 30 LPI and sometimes 40.....but I have never seen such a unique approach. You have acquired a masterpiece and an heirloom. Can't wait for more!

I’ll be posting a 45ACP that was likely Bobs last gun... it is amazing to see the evolution on this pattern cut and what he did with it between 1997 to 2012. Truly amazing. Stay tuned... I’ll probably post it at the end of next week!:)
