10/22 without a single ruger part. Mostly volquartsen. Fajen stock
About 15 years ago. Time flies.
I’ll never forget hanging Coke cans from strings and her shooting the strings to make the cans fall. Show off.
So, that was your daughter's 8th Bday present? Wow!

I tried giving my oldest several "nice" .22s at that age, but she wanted the beat-up '70s Mossberg Plinkster I grew up with.

She still has it. We just built her an AR to keep it company in her safe. :)

She got an ar for her 10th bday. We built it together. Duracoat pink and purple with little heart stencils

Iirc it was
5th - pink wood cricket stainless bbl
8th - 10/22
10th - pink/purple AR build
12th - p22 and YHM mite (obviously didn’t transfer haha)

Ya know I have been wondering about this too…. So my niece and nephew’s turned 2 this year. And I was thinking of getting they a 22 when they are a little older but was kind of wondering what the right age was…. Also a bit complicated because 2 of them have anti-gun mothers.

Great memory and what an impressive rifle to learn with! Our girls, now (almost) 17 and 18 each received little Cricket .22s for their 5th birthdays---their choice of stock (plain pink composite and laminated pink wood). I didn't allow toy guns or BB guns in their world until MUCH later on. This proved a good choice from a gun safety education perspective; no mixed messages about what safe handling entails when the only thing handled is a real firearm. Six years ago they each received Colt 6920s with mags, tools and a good supply of quality ammo set aside. We are very proud of them as they grow into independent young women who understand that they must be the primary guardians of their own safety and liberty.

was kind of wondering what the right age was
highly dependent on the child. some can handle early, others still shouldn't have guns at age 40.

at age 5, i installed a sling on the cricket and let her walk around the house carrying it and familiarizing herself with it and memorizing the 4 rules for quite a while before she shot it, and then, it required adult supervision because she wasn't strong enough to cock it by herself. she also participated in a BB League to learn positional shooting.

My son's first gun is the Red Ryder Anniversary edition he's learning on in my avatar. His second is a Thompson Center .22 Classic he's yet to shoot. I acquired both before he was born, giving him the Daisy for his 6th birthday. The .22 was intended for his 10th, but he doesn't have as much interest as I hoped he'd show. He helps in the reloading room and enjoys the science behind it (the math, not so much). Just doesn't care about trigger time.

He was supposed to receive my old Savage 24 .22/410 for his 12th, since it was my 12th birthday present. Still 2 years away, so we'll see.
