I decided I wanted a windage top that used sandbags for my home made rifle rest. It's a MIG project. MIG stands for "made in garage", not with a mig welder. I also decided to make another elevation screw with a bit more height adjustment and a new mariner wheel to go on it. Some delrin, some aluminum, a 1" B12 flange stud, a few stainless steel knobs instead of making my own like on the previous top, a couple of different length stainless screws, some all thread rod. and a lot of machining, drilling, tapping, and finishing and I have a new top. Here it is, front and back, on the old rest base.

Don't look too closely at the welds on the base. I built this after my essential tremors were becoming a problem. I was much smoother before the tremors started.

Thanks for the kind words. The vise in the picture is a Wilton 4" that I bought back in the mid '70's. It has been a very helpful tool and the only thing that has ever failed on it is the unneccessary rubber bumper washers they put on the handle. They eventually split and I took them off. I have it's little 3" brother inside on a similar HD steel table. The 4" has been several colors as my oldest grandson has delighted in sneaking around and rattle canning it with various colors. It is now the closest color I had to it's original color.

Very nice work! The only thing I would add are stop nuts to the feet to lock in height adjustment. You can see said same on my old Hoppe’s rest below, the silver knurled disks.

I considered that and made the screws where I could take them apart so lock nuts could be added if needed. This thing weighs real close to 19 pounds and it has never needed for the screws to be locked. It just sits there happy as a clam. It does have no slip material glued to the bottom of each screw which probably aids in it never moving. The pick-up handle in front is a clue to how heavy it is.

I spotted that handle, another well thought out touch! Weight is one reason I tend to leave my big rest at home, bulk being the other.
