It's been around twenty years since my last one. I decided I wanted a crossdraw one for my bird's head HRR so I dug out the leather I had left from my last effort, my tools, and got busy. I modified Al Stholman's single six pattern into what I wanted and added his Colt single action tooling pattern as I like it better than the one for the single six. After too many mistakes to keep count of and time spent waiting for supplies I didn't have I managed this. This was supposed to be light brown but Fiebing and I have different opinions on colors. Let me add that leather that is stiff as a pine board isn't easy to work with but two soakings with a strong mixture of eco-flow made it much more pliable. Not quite like new but workable.

It fits just like I intended but I made another mistake by not lining it. I sanded the flesh side of the leather to 600 grit but it is still going to wear the finish quickly. Even a HRR doesn't deserve this and it will probably go in my box of things I never use.

I might not have completely lost my talent but I had to run it down and it kept struggling to get away all the time I was using it. I used to be better. Now that I have had a little practice I am thinking about making another as I have more leather that needs something done with it. No use in letting good Herman's Oak go to waste.

If you're not going to use it, maybe I could.

I'll probably give it a try to see if it does what I want. I have also thought about cutting it apart and adding a thin liner. I really haven't made up my mind yet. It represents a lot of work to just stick in a box.

I have given a little though to making a few to sell but really don't want to get into the online thing and also don't know if anyone would want to meet my price. I do know one thing though. I won't be making any more dyed ones, natural or antiqued finish only.
