Haven't had a Savage 22 that wasn't made before 1950. Had a few 99s, 110, 112, and a 220. All are fine guns.
For 22, and not being extravagant, I have a 1926 or so Win 52 that I paid $325 for a couple years ago. Shoots right along with my $450 CZ455 Varmint. My "highly end" 22 is a Ruger 10-22 that I bought new for $125, added a Kidd trigger for $125 from a buddy, a Shaw barrel with Bent chamber, $124, and a Ruger laminated target stock (gift from a friend). Scope, A 6-24X cost as much as the rest of the gun.
All three will go .25-.5" at fifty meters with Eley Club minimum. Federal auto match works for cheaper prsctice, especially if you sort rim thicknesses.
