Noticed Savage has a new model 40 Varmint Hunter in .223. It's a single shot bolt. MSRP $408. Never hear much about Savage, but this looks neat. Anyone have any opinions on this rifle (or Savage rifles)?

savage rifles have been getting a very good reputation lately for great accuracy. some people don't like them because they are not a remington. I love them and their accuracy speaks for them. as for the varmiter, I have no experience with that.

I really like Savage rifles, they're getting a great reputation again for some good shooters, but if you are looking for a really accurate rifle from Savage, I'd go with the AccuTrigger models, which I don't believe the Model 40 comes with. IMO, I'd go on and spend the extra dough up front for the accutrigger rather than doing the aftermarket deal.
