Looks like Paul Harrell is coming to the end of his road...

Sad to hear him say that might be the last time we see him om video again.
Agreed. You beat me to the post, but it's a about 9:45 in.

You know. He is really an inspiration. Think about it. The man may only have days left to live and he's out on the range. I've seen my elders pass, and some had to give up their passions months or even years ahead of their last days.

A few years back I was looking for information on something gun related and came across one of Mr. Harrell’s videos. I’m not a big YouTube fan, but I ended up watching every one of his past videos over the next few months and every new one since.

He shares his vast knowledge in a way that conveys respect for his audience and he does not talk down to his followers. You never get the feeling he thinks he knows everything and that you are lucky to be in his presence, an annoying trait amongst some of the younger guntubers.

The gun community is going to lose a real class act and I for one will keep him and his family in my prayers.

That is just one hell of an evil disease, all you can say is F cancer.

As to Paul, I did not agree with all he said, no one agrees 100% with anyone on the planet, but he was just fun to watch and listen to.

I think in that world of "entertainment" you need to have two things, worth watching and fun to watch. Paul has both.

"If you are trained, you will do what you're trained to do. If you're untrained, you'll flop around like a fish." Paul Harrell
People overuse 'laugh out loud' these days, but I literally laughed out loud at that. My wife peeked in from the kitchen and asked what could be so funny in 'one of those gun videos you watch'....

Since it seems too late to hope for Paul's recovery, I will hope it is peaceful and painless when the inevitable arrives.

I'm a little late to the game, but yeah, he posted a 15 minute "Channel Update" 5 months ago stating that he has Pancreatic cancer. Then, this morning, he posted a sub one minute video today stating "the time I have left...has become very short" and introduces his brother. It's a sad day in the guntuber world. If you look at his channel, he asn't posted anything in a month until today. Cancer takes a lot out of a person.

He was recently nominated for Best Outdoorsman and Most Likely To Survive The Apocalypse for this year's Gundie Awards. I hope he wins them both.

Gunblast.com on YT went through this a few years ago, and his brother took over the channel. It's good but not the same. Not to detract from Harrell's brother, but it won't be the same.

Here are links to the two videos I mentioned:

Thank you for the links. I do not watch you tube gun videos very often, but have seen few of his. He does a very good job and sad to hear about his condition,

There was a push this week by some fellow guntubers to get Paul to 1 million subscribers. It was achieved this morning. Such a touching moment to me. You can tell it was hitting Aaron@AR a little close to home in his video. I think Paul was one of the first none entertaining guntubers I subscribed to 3 or 4 years ago. I hope we can see some folks fly out and give Paul his golden play button from YT and see Paul 1 more time on camera

Most unfortunately, I have a family member going through this right now. I have the power to make his dying wish come true. Lord help me, I hope I can accomplish it.

It just occurred to me, he only has 407 videos total on YT. His oldest video if from 11 years ago. Think about that for a moment. An average of 37 videos per year, or one video every ten days. Slow and steady wins the race, I guess. He has obviously earned a lot of respect and admiration in the firearms community, and did it with those seemingly paltry numbers.

Being the kind of person that I am, I can see google/youtube dragging their feet on that. For one reason and one reason only......well aside from the fact that google/yt are not good people.

Yeah, I saw that. Tons of traffic on Reddit last week about getting Paul's channel to 1M. Glad they got it, sorry I wasn't able to help additionally...I've been a subscriber for years.

Paul's looking pretty good on his last video considering what he's dealing with.

As one who makes youtube content... one (good) video every 10 days is A LOT of work. I'm lucky if I can do one a month. Paul's content is almost always informative, well-researched, well-presented, and accurate, and he's a great on-camera personality. From what I've seen, his brother isn't, and I doubt he'll get the following Paul had. But Paul's legacy online will live on as long as YouTube allows that kind of content. I've seen every thing he's ever done, including his Thanksgiving specials which are very long (just Paul camp cooking and spinning yarns).

My intention was not to either disparage or detract from Harrell's work but rahter to point out that he has been about as successful as larger channels with his smaller presence.

Agreed...and...agreed.

I could not agree more. I have tried it, and while it is fun it is a great deal of work to edit videos. You also have money you tossed into it for that video editing software, and a fairly stout computer to chew on that video. It is a huge amount of time.

I have three videos "almost done" and just have other normal things getting in the way....like doing stuff on the project and not fooling with a video.

I now understand them asking for money. It could easy be a full time job.

I've enjoyed and benefitted from watching Paul's channel. I'm just an outside observer to the current situation whatever it may be but I want to be respectful. Thinking of the man, what I know of what he has done and said, the manner in which he chose to do it. Makes me think of a line from a poem.

"If you can fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run"

I'd say Paul has demonstrated that and more. Here is a man.
