Missed out on a $1200 Kimber Gold Combat Stainless 2 … by 1 minutes

I did not get into Kimbers until the mid to late 90’s. At one time I had over 30.

The “Custom Shop” line of pistols is what drew me in. Notice I said “line”. That’s all the Custom Shop is, a line of pistols, or as J Frank put it, style of pistols.

A true Custom shop is one that tailors the gun for the customer, not a menu item that can not be changed for the customer‘s taste.

The Custom Shop line blew mainstream makers out of the water, especially Colt, by offering checkering, better blended beaver tails and safeties; all for only pennies on the dollar more compared to a real custom shop.

I haven’t bought a Colt since Kimber came on to the scene. Colt didn’t wake up until 5-8 years ago and finally made similar offerings.

Then when Kimber started with the gun of the week program I lost interest and glad I did; that when their QC could not keep up with their rapid growth.

I hope that explains why 1911 guys roll their eyes at Kimber “Custom” guns.
not all Custom is Custom! THanks!!!

SiL has the Kimber 10 mm in a commander length, it jams a bit , picky on ammo.

In 10 mm look for Colt Delta Elite full length, these are excellent pistols..
even the New Colt DE are good? they got one in the $1050 New range. Been eye balling that

Put on a Houge Wrap around Finger grove grips!!! Bring back the early 90’s!

It works that way sometimes.

Yeah, when you least expect it. Got stuck about a mile from anything that could help get me unstuck. On the way back, taking a short cut through the woods on foot, I came across a thermal that was somehow lost at the end of last year in the woods. To my amazement it powered right up.

Not all bad, is bad.

Nobody here likes a Kimber except mr. Mod! 😂
I can't help it. it's runs 100% from round 1, feeds everything, and is very accurate. Popping the 16" 53 yard & the 18" 75 yard
steel plates (above and below the log in the cleared path to the 100+ yard steel targets.), is is pretty easy, even with open
sights and these old eyes. What's not to love?

I replaced the Kimber thumb safety and slide stop with Wilson parts. I modded the thumb safety to look like the old Commander
thumb safety which I like. I replaced the plastic mainspring housing with an aluminum magwell/mainspring housing. I forget the
brand. I also sandblasted the TS and SS to match the finish on the slide.

Of course the square steel plate at 12 yards is fall over easy. You just can see the 100+ yard targets.

All these Kimber Hater makes me want to gets the most Obnoxious Model!

That range looks like paradise! I would definitely have a cabin built there!

View attachment 1193893My Daughter raided my safe one day and claimed this one for herself, Delta Elite ignition and hammer, Vadeki trigger, Wilson combat 47 D magazines, replaced the plastic mainspring housing with flat with lanyard loop, real Ivory grips 5 in frame.
You do own a Kimber! I think there a bunch of Closeted Kimber Lovers here! It OK people! No judging here

Oh yeah, I owned one and said the internals are the same from model to model ( nothing special ) and I would buy a Colt before a Kimber. That’s from my experience.
I need one of those weathers Kimbers from the 90’s with Finger Grovers!

I’m not a hater, I was Amen’n tarosean when he said it is not a custom shop.

Then I explained why that is.

Out of my original 30 plus, I still have 6 or 8.

The only reason I sold those Kimbers is because Uncle Sam wanted more taxes than I had figured on. And each Kimber Custom that sold brought about 1k$ each.

Here’s two of the keepers. I also have the other two sizes that complete this set.

I thought Ivory Grips were banned or something

are you a shooter? or more of a collector ?

I’m definitely a shooter and played in various competitions.

Once I got a taste of steel I haven’t punched paper in over 30 years. I find it incredibly boring now.

However, having said that, if I had an indoor range to go to, I’m sure my view would change.

I used to think of myself as a collector, but honestly I’m a gun addict. I accumulate, but rarely sell; for over 50 years, since I was 14.

I see some of myself in you as well; you seem to be going down some of my paths :)

That’s why I enjoy following your threads:cool:

That’s the nice someone said to me in a long time! THanks!

Nope, these were pre ban Elephant of the 70’s. After the bill #1492 the fish and wildlife deal passed ( iirecall the number correctly) commercial sales for pre ban Elephant ivory was shut down in Wash. you can still work with and sell other types of Ivory.

I did something similar. I replaced the slide stop, the magazine release (wanted a taller one) and the main spring housing (didn't care that it was plastic but wanted more aggressive checkering). The gun is stupid accurate, better than I can shoot. And like yours it's fed everything except a box of Herter's bullets. It shot the first three fine, just didn't want to feed them. I gave the other 47 rounds away.

I like my Kimber enough that I've ordered another one, a CDP Ultra. LGS said it should arrive sometime in March.
