Any opinions on the .30 Super Carry cartridge

I wonder who is the "Father of 30 Super Carry?"

It gives you two extra rounds in a gun that would otherwise only give you 8 rounds.

The moped of modern handguns.

Might have less recoil than 9mm.
But if 9mm recoil is something that bothers you, you have larger issues than caliber selection.

Right now, buy all the ammo you ever intend to shoot in that caliber unless you don't care if ammo is unavailable in the near future, or you don't care ammo is unreasonably expensive in the near future.

If I were younger, I would buy a case of Gucci 30SC ammo.
Then I would sell it for unreasonable prices when it eventually is unobtainium.
But I'm too old to play those games now.
The only unobtanium thing I'm actually interested is that set of car keys I lost between the kitchen and the garage last month. I would pay someone $100 to find those keys for me now. Just so I could stop fretting about it.
I'll be dead or legally incompetent before my Gucci 30SC investment will ripen.

A reloaders round, if that.

I think only 2 things were chambered in it. A $$$ Nighthawk and the OP's find. It isn't a horrible idea, but got little to no support and pistols weren't designed around the round to max any gain which could have been there.

If I fell into one silly cheap with a case of ammo, I would think about it, if I could get dies for it.

Prices of ammunition have come down dramatically since it first debuted two years ago. I’m very fond of mine.
I bought a second on the beliefs of some that it will disappear. Such would make it an immediate collector’s item. I also got a deal on extra magazines.
But, at the present, no signs of its going away are present..
As seen in my avatar, it’s a tackdriver. Besides, I haven’t had any one volunteer to be shot by it…
Ballistic gel testing shows it generally performs on par with the 9mm.
Loading data allows me to run it nearly 100fps above already hot factory ammo.
AFAIC, it’s the real deal. I do wish someone would make M1911 conversion kit of slide, barrel, and magazines to convert a M1911 to .30SuperCarry.

You can make your own dies outa a few other caliber dies if you really want…….

My present hideout guns are 5, 6, and 7 shooters.
A 13 shot sounds like an upgrade.
A case of hardball and a case of hollow point would last a good while in a gun shot for quarterly familiarization.

Its the only ammo I recall seeing in any numbers in fall, 2020 at Sportsman's Warehouse in Carson City, Nv. I think that was a sign that few had one back then, and I don’t believe a whole lot has changed since then.

Here in Ca, I seriously can’t recall even seeing ammo for it on the shelf, as I don’t know if folks can even buy a .30 SC handgun over the counter. (Don’t know if either of those guns are on the ridiculous “DOJ safe handgun roster.”)

Neat idea for a little gun like an LCP or LCP Max, but in a 9mm sized gun I’m not too taken with the caliber. YMMV.

Stay safe.

If the cartridge is as accurate as GooseGestapo has talked about it's got my attention, but not in the Nighthawk or M&P. Now, Avidity Arms announced before SHOT they were also going to be making a .30 Super that holds 12 rds and that is a very flat pistol which intrigues me, but before I'm sold on the .30 Super I need to see a full size doublestack to see if the capacity of a flush fit mag in something the size of a Glock 19 can hit 20 rds or more.

When am I going to need 20 rds or more in a compact pistol? IDK, but I like the idea because the 8mm caliber is about as small a bullet diameter we can get in a straight wall case until performance in pistols is reduced to a level of clearly reduced effectiveness.

If more pistols made for it came out, made for that round, then I may change my opinion some. May even buy one then. However, little gain for me now and I have enough odd things I load for now..........

How much smaller could a gun designed for a cartridge 1 MM smaller, with the same OAL and similar power, be?

How much is half price? I would pay $200 for the novelty but not much more. I prefer big bullets (45 acp) in a carry gun so I doubt I would ever carry it.

People whose ideas of shooting match their exercises at the range of shooting informally at stationary targets at seven yards will have no use for it.

People who have participated in realistic defensive training exercises and who have studied enough real world shooting incidents will understand the advantages of rapid controllable fire and a capacity of ten or more rounds. Those who reefer a thin single column pistol for all-day carry will appreciate the larger capacity of the .30 SC.

I am one of the latter. I carry a Smith and Wesson EZ 9. I see the advantage of the extra two shots in the Avidity Arms PD10. The .30 SC adds two more in each.

If I were to a acquire a .30 SC, I would keep the 9 for ammunition availability.

Half price? It would be for self defense. The stakes are extremely high. The price tag is not a significant consideration.

Came across an ad for a S&W M&P in .30 Super Carry that's about half the price of M&Ps chambered in larger rounds.

Looks like the perfect opportunity for those that believe two is one and one is none.

Available ammo is currently cheaper than something like .32 H&R mag. If one wanted to dive in, they could stockpile some .30 SC ammo for cheaper than getting in on the .32 H&R trend that is currently ongoing.

According to Goose Gestapo, the ammo price has come down significantly.
