9mm target load

I’d be interested to know where PP got this reputation. It certainly will put on a show.
I'm not sure where the reputation comes from, but PP is accurate. This is at 15yards using a rest.

I use Federal eFMJ 105gr. I bought surplus from Midway when the 9mm Guard Dog load was discontinued. 3.7gr. IMR 700X w/ a COAL of 1.12”.
They’re like laser beams - around 1150fps even at that small charge from a Beretta 92FS - and super light so there’s very little recoil and they feed like a FM in every 9mm pistol I own - 100% reliable. The flat nose punches clean holes like a wadcutter. As a bonus, if I ever have to use them for home defense the expanding tips will come in handy. They do expand well and are relatively barrier effective but, I really don’t want to rely on expansion with such a light bullet. I bought them during a free shipping special in 2020. They were $90/K - whichwas pretty pricey back then - but I figured they would be a good multitasker so I ponied up for 2K. Glad I did, too. Kind of like the 1st Gen Golden Saber 125gr .357” I bought surplus when Remington changed to the bonded bullet. Those really good as .38Spl standard velocity general purpose bullets.
I wish Hodgdon would get 700X back in stock all my pistol loads were built on 700X I really liked it in 9mm

What you guys working with for 9mm target loads? trying to stay away from Berry’s a bit. Anybody doing 9mm SWC?
I am using Missouri 125 gr LSWC in 9mm with Bullseye or W244 . I get them from Grafs they are very accurate in my S&W 929 PC revolver and my Springfield XDM Elite Precision. I also use them in my S&W 627 PC 8 shot 38 super revolver and my Rock Island 1911 38 super with the same results using W244 or Accurate # 9 .

Both the wife and I shoot a lot of pistols. From 380acp to 45acp. I will cast and load lead bullets for everything we have with the exception of the 9mm. 9mm I only load either plated or jacketed. Barrel diameter varies way too much between 9's to try and keep that many different sized loads.

The lead I use is all recycled range fodder from the outdoor 25yd pistol range I work at. Last effort was 160lbs in 40 min.

The load I won the most PPC matches with was a 115gr JHP over 5.0gr of HP38. This is what Bobby Tranum of Precision Delta used in the PD match loads he sold.
115gr XTPs.jpg I like that load also, 5gr of HP-38 with 115gr TC style bullet.
Here is about 1200 of them I loaded with Hornady XTPs that I got free from a bunch of Hornady stuff I bought.
It's my favorite 115gr load with jacketed hollowpoints.
I've used Power Pistol in 9mms also but mostly use it in .357mag. I may need to revisit it for 9mm. Especially when I can't find BE-86 again.

This thread is super helpful! Lots of good combos and things to try.

types of 9mm shooting:

1- Suppress for fun: Got that mostly covered with 147 & 124 Berry bullets and Universal. But that powder won’t cycle the gun if the charge is too small. Will try N320 on a low charge and see if I can make the quietest possable 147 or 124

2 - USPSA: Go fast 9mm for a STi DVC 5.5” gun. And, a CZ Shadow Carry Optic class. need light recoil, minor PF, and accurate.

3 - Just standing there and punching holes in paper at 5 and 10 yards is very relaxing and satisfying, makes a stressful week go by quickly . I tried longer distances, but it’s not fun, I just can’t bull-eye or group good at pass 15 yards

3.1 of N310 with a plated berrys 147 @ 1.160" will do all of those but its not going to even be close to a 115 jhp at 100 yds in terms of accuracy but thats not needed for the above.

I really like those bullets in my Tisas Stingray and CZ P-01 with Titegroup. I bought some more to try with W231.

I haven’t bought any in awhile , is the discount code still thehighroad5 ? I am going to order some this week .

From left to right Lee 120 TC traditional lube, sized to .358, same bullet unsized and unlubed, the same bullet powder coated and unsized, the next bullet is the Lee 124 TC TL with xlox coating unsized., then the same bullet raw, they cast at .359-360, then the Winchester 115 Target bullet in copper, and lastly the Speer 124 FMJ Target bullet. The Win 115 is very accurate with 5.8 grains of CFEPistol, The Lee 124 tumble lube truncated cone is also extremely accurate unsized in my Beretta using Ramshot Competition at 2.9 grains. coal is 1.05 to 1.06. It's also excellent with Win 231 at 3.9 grains unsized at coal of 1.125. Unique withe same bullet at 5.0 grains and coal of 1.110. Finally, the same bullet is awesome with Ramshot Silhouette at 5.0 grains and a coal of 1.050. The Hornady XTPs are also pretty flawless using basic recipes in most of the reloading manuals.

Thinking of switching over to Titegroup for target loads in 9mm. As noted above, my current most accurate powder is HS6, but I found out this weekend that it shoots light magnum loads very accurately in my Blackhawk, so I may reserve it for that and try to find some Titegroup. I've tested Titegroup before and it worked well, but I didn't have enough for production work.

Any good jacketed hollow point at a decent price. I’ve had great luck with Win, Hornady, Speer. 115 through 147.
Plated have been hit and miss. Xtreme 124 FP shoot great in my carbine, but my Glock hates them. 147 Berry’s RN just the opposite results.
• The problem with plated bullets is that the plating varies from lot-to-lot and maker-to-maker. The one thing my testing has shown is that if you are serious about target loads, then DON'T use plated bullets. It's not that they're all "bad", but rather so dang "inconsistent". Accuracy (putting the next bullet hole right next to the last one) boils down to extreme consistency. What good does it do to go to extremes with powder measurement when the bullets are all different weights and plating thicknesses ?

• The very best bullets I can find in bulk at any price are made by Precision Delta and Zero. However, Rocky Mountain Reloading (RMR) is sneaking up on these guys fast ! Their combination of quality, consistency and bulk delivered price absolutely cannot be beat. And on top of that is the THR 5% discount just for being a member here.

With the price of primers and powder so high right now, it's just silly to be shooting junk bullets and getting mediocre results. It's time to "step up your game" with some truly GREAT bullets.

[Disclaimer: I am not now, nor have I ever been an employee of, or paid by, RMR. I do not know Jake from Adam. But I shoot enough to know really good bullets.]

I got some RMR coming in! I know it’s good before even trying it because numbers show, EVERYONE likes them
