Who had a reloading mentor and I’m looking for one local

I've got a 2013 796 Monster ABS... the last of the air-cooled, 2V Monsters. The only thing that 'cooks' is my inner left thigh setting in traffic... :p
My old ‘78 airhead R100s would cook my feet. Even in “winter.”
Old bikes and old guns are just a natural combination. I could fit a full reloading setup in the rear bags of that Beamer and have room left for lunch and a couple of handguns. 😁

In a land far far away in the distant past I had a mentor. My grandfather had me helping to reload under his guidance at age 7 or so. By the time I was 10 in 1968 he was telling me that I had to reload my own 30-30 and 38SPL if I wanted to shoot as much as I did. He supplied me with a limited stash of components to accomplish this task with as "pay" for helping around the dairy farm. We got to shoot plenty, cast bullets, hunt, fish, ride around on horses, drive around on tractors, race around in the fields in "woods cars"we modified by removing the doors and glass, and blow things up with either black powder or dynamite. Boy I miss growing up on the farm. One of the important things was dynamite fuse was timed at 6 seconds a foot and figure how far you needed to run for cover to be safe LOL.
Today a parent would be charged with neglect for allowing this to happen.

Charlie is a Ducati man and I am too. I Had a nice red 2006 multistrada 1000sds with Ohlins suspension. I’m having an absolute ball so far with reloading. I was very intimidated over the years to take the plunge but I’m glad I did. Charlie and I are getting together real soon and I thank him very much!
Haha this forum never ceases to amaze me. I have a 2014 Multistrada 1200S that I absolutely love.

Back in the day, I lusted after a 906 Paso, then the ST2-3-4 series. I settled on the lightly used Monster because it was a deal I could not pass up. Shortly after buying it, I was watching Ducati videos on YooToob... someone ran a basically stock 2013 Pikes Peak Edition Multi up Pikes Peak... and I was like "Holy (stuff,) THAT'S the bike I want!" But I had my Monster, it was paid for... and the Multis were in the mid teens... so... I still have the Monster.

Nothing quite like reloading barefoot while in fleece pajamas. That's usually how I do it, except I use a single stage press.

Take your time and double check as you go, and have fun!

And remember, not all “once fired” brass has never been reloaded. The greatest advantage of the hand press, in my opinion, is that it gives you the ability to feel the process of working with the brass. It’s a great way to learn the difference between a seized primer and a tight pocket - for example.
But you do have to go slowly be one with the brass.

You could really feel the difference in some cases. Some super easy and a few had some resistance. I had only one case that looked suspect, the flash hole looked weird. I chunked that one

For those "super easy" cases, do those happen to be R-P? I can sort those headstamps out (in my .38 Special brass) just running them through the resizing die, don't even have to look...

Well I went back through this processed 200 cases and organized them in lots. R-P’s,Geco, Winchester, etc. it’s amazing the difference in the cases! Different diameters of the rim and stuff like that. I thought “brass is brass” they should all be the same…. NO sir! Thx Geodudeflorida

You're right about that, but I have tested all matching new .38 Spl (Starline) cases vs mixed range cases, and couldn't shoot the difference. I shoot mixed .38 Spl brass.

9MM cases are all over the freaking place as far as dimensions, weights etc, and testing that against sorted cases I could see a small difference, not so much in

group size up close, but it eliminated some of the long range what the crap was that shots. So no real proof, just more confidence in the rounds, and that is important

too. I know it shoots a little better, whether I can prove it or not, so........... :)
