You never know who you will bump into at the range. A couple of weeks ago, my son and I went to the local indoor range to shoot. When we walk in there was one of my old friends, Shannon. We’ve known each other for years. He worked for the PD in my hometown and was the Chief of the police department when he retired just over a year ago.
He and his wife bought a sailboat and spent a year sailing in the Keys. He said it was fun, but expensive. He was now working at the range to keep him busy and have some extra fun money.
I told him that I had bought a Chiapas Rhino in 357 Magnum. His eyes light up and asked if I had it with me. I told him no, but I would come by another day with it so that he could shoot it.
This past Monday I went to the range with the revolver and a box of 357 magnum ammo. Shooting is fun, but shooting with friends is even more fun. We went through those 50 rounds in a short time. Shannon said that was the first time he had shot a Rhino with a long barrel.
I asked if he would like to shoot it some more, he said yes, but had to get back to work. I told him to just hang on to the revolver and shoot it as much as he liked.
I told him to try some 38 Target loads in it, it was like shooting a cap gun.
He told me that he would take great care of my gun and get it back to me in a couple of weeks. I told him to have fun with it.
It’s nice to have good friends that you can trust your toys with.

Yeah it is! And its good to have friends who are willing to trust you with their toys, im sure he very much appreciates it!
Glad you guys are having a good time!

I enjoy firearms and tinkering, but i think sharing the enjoyment is far more important to me than the guns.

That's great, Gunny! I work on some friends guns at home occasionally, and well, I have to test fire them after working on them. I have a friend's shotgun that I fixed, I called him in November to let him know it's done, he said he'd call me after the holidays, it's almost April.....

I have shot a few round of Trap 'test firing' it, it's an SKB 700 O/U, almost the same as my 600.

That reminds me. I have an SKB 12ga auto in my safe that belongs to a friend. He asked me to fix it back around 1992. It had a plunger on the trigger mechanism that was froze up. I soaked that things, but couldn’t get it to move. Mike told me to just hold on to it.
Mike ended up moving and I lost contact with him. He was in his late fifties, not in the best of health, had no kids, and never talked about any relatives. I’m still holding on to his shotgun for him.

I was shooting with my neighbor who is current county deputy a few months ago. He has a nice range set up on his property with a bunch of gongs to shoot at. He mentioned buying a 22LR conversion for his duty AR15 to do some squirrel hunting. I asked him how many kids does he have now? He said he has 5 daughters! I joked with him, at this point, you ought to try one more time for a boy, if nothing else you can't stop with an odd number of children.

The next time I saw him I loaned him my Norinco copy of a Browning SA-22 rifle and gave him a 500rd count box of 22LR. I told him I didn't expect the ammo back and that he could keep the rifle for as long as he wanted.

I have outlived all my friends. I know one person that isn't a relative that I would loan a gun to. Well, 2, but the other owns the LGS and isn't in good enough condition to do anything but sell guns. Last year was a bad one for him as he lost both his wife and son and he's no pictures of health either. Three heart attacks, 7 stents, and he still smokes and is really overweight. He has dropped his open hours to 11 AM to 4 PM. If I loaned him a gun I might never see it again.

I have 92 acre farm and can shoot anytime I want.I also belong to a local range.Sometimes being among other shooters and shooting the bull is as much fun as shooting.I do shoot alot here on the farm but enjoy the range as well.

I do most of the shooting on my own 130 acre farm. Its an hour away from the house. Sometimes it's nice to go to the local range just to be around other shooters. I am going to Louisiana in a couple weeks. I am going to do my best to visit Gunny again.

Yep...I miss the comradship of others...we're on a small farm here in KY and it's nice walking out in the side meadow any time I want...but....

Our #2 son lives on 75 acres next to us with his 4 daughters, all below the age of eleven. They're over often but not to shoot....yet....he comes around often and we squeeze off a cpl dozen rounds to keep the ammunition fresh. Some of his buddies do as well, and all like to go down to my loading room and refill what we've shot...

Guys my age are a thinning population and I treasure those that are left...friends are fore ever if you keep in touch...best regards, Rod
