My Newest Rifle, CZ 457 Varmint 22lr

Good to know! I know some competition shooters swap their barrels pretty regular (centerfire) but I'm not surprised to hear that .22lr doesn't generate enough heat to cause any appreciable throat/rifling erosion. I'm definitely going to be hunting one of these CZ's down in a couple weeks.

What kills a rimfire barrel, after a LONG time of shooting, is the abrasion with the silica glass materials that are found in the priming compounds to make them more impact sensitive .
This debris is blown down the bore and settles with gravity at the bottom of the bore. Then the bullet rides over it and does a bit of sanding, washing out one side of the lands.

I’ve not seen this phenomenon in person, only read about it on RimFire Central. ( @Ignition Override😉) But oh, man, I’d love to shoot one that much! The ones they were discussing were very well used training rifles.

That’s a beautiful rifle, @AzShooter1. You definitely lucked-out on the non-manmade parts!

Picked it up today and did a little bit of trigger work. I also mounted the Vortex 6 X 18 44mm scope.

Just a " plinker " but I want it to be accurate so I ordered a Jard trigger for it. I'm too old to be able to see what I'm doing anymore and I shake too much for the tiney screws to be worked on.
That rifle is way beyond pretty and nice .....

Try Grab A Gun. They had the best price and availability. Shipping to my FFL was only $ 9.00. My transfer fee is $ 25.00.

The wood grain and checkering on the stock looks very good along with a heavy barrel, it's hard to believe this is a sub $1K target rifle. I can't wait to handle one in person, as of right now I'm looking for shops in SC that may have one. I'll be down there in the coming weeks and have struck out around here in NE.

I had to send my Black Mamba back to Volquartsen because the slide cracked and they called me and told me the barrel needed replacement. I shot mostly Blazers out of it, so it shouldn't have needed to be fixed but I guess VQ knows a lot more about it than I do.

It shoots great now. It's my Steel Challenge gun so it gets a lot of use.

First outing CZ 457 Varmint 22lr.

CCI-SV shows promise as well as Normal TAC22 and Golden Eagle Match. I lost the program in my computer for calculating group size and MOA but I'll be able to download it gain in a little while.

I should have just kept shooting the SVs today. I really didn't learn much from the Norma or Golden Eagle at this point. Maybe after I settle down and bring out my better bags and front rest. I just didn't feel like lugging them to the range today. I have a nice solid metal rest and good Protecto Rear bags. My front bag was too heavy to carry out today.

Shooting in a 10 mph wind with 15 mph gusts wasn't the best way to test the new 457 22. Hope it's calm next time out. I plan on making one or two trips to the range next time so that I can carry all my gear.
