Stick that brass into the shell holder and see if it aligns with the top or just above before it makes contact with the die. My guess, that's as far down as the die will contact. I have new brass that looks the same way.
I adjusted the die to measure the same as the new unfired rounds for starters using Hornady comparator set.I wear reading glasses while loading. It helps me a lot with my sight. The sizing die should tough the shell holder. Then turning it in a 1/8th to 1/4 turn more.
You said that was a forester 308 die which happens to be what I use. They have a die service department that does honning, more geared toward the neck area, but I'd be on the horn with them seeing if they will polish/hone it. It could be the die, but then it would do it to all brass not be brand specific.May have found problem? This is a view into bottom of die. Seems to show rings inside of there. Surely it should be smoother than that? If that's the problem I will order a new die can't be good on the brass.View attachment 1201660
