I have a new candidate for favorite rifle:
Years ago, I turned down an opportunity to buy a very old, very worn 94 Winchester SRC marked on the reciever NEW MEXICO STATE PENETENTIARY. I regretted not buying that rifle still to this day.
About a year ago this 1980 Winchester SRC showed itself at my LGS, unfired in its original box. I bought it and brought it home and fired a few rounds through it to check its action...it hit the oil filters that I had laid out, and I called it good. I really hadn't tried it on paper until yesterday.
Since I had a target set up at 40 yards, I took the carbine, some 30-30 cast reloads and my muffs and proceeded to fire 11 rounds into one of my black powder rifle targets.
Wow! I was giddy with the results! The wind was blowing directly in my face. It didn't effect the bullets much...but it was shaking the target stand. There were a couple that went wide...but not too bad for open sights.
Forgive my crappy pictures as my phone decided to poop out when I was trying to take pictures outside. I had to bring g it inside and charge it.
