So I finally got to the big city and got to experience the new Scheels store in Chandler Arizona. Frankly I am not impressed. It is a totally overblown shopping center for every genre of sporting and outdoor activities imaginable. I made my way up to the second level to where the firearms, ammo and shooting items are. I had only a $100 budget so it didn't take too long to pick up a bag of lead shot, two boxes of Fiochi 12ga 1oz loads that I have been wanting to try to compare to my own handloads. Yes it's a big beautiful store but I think I will stick with my hometown gun shops. There is also a Cabelas and a Bass Pro Shop as well as a Sportsmans Warehouse in the Phoenix area to choose from.

The thing I like about Scheels, buy a gun and don’t like it, you can return it. We have one right here in Billings and it is so much better than Cabela’s. Cabela’s here has the gun counter commandos that tell you what you want to buy. Scheels is a good place to take my two sons, we can eat, one likes baseball the other basketball and I search the guns and reloading. They currently have Fed 210 Match primers for $80/1000. A lot more than they used to be but a lot cheaper than other places when they have them.

I've bought a perfict Remington V3 and a used 1895 marlin in 45 70. Also a S&W sport 2. All with a money back guarantee.
Walk in a Cabela's or bass pro you must yell hello hello to get noticed. Just like home depot . Scheels employees are wanting to help. You don't take a number you walk up and hold rifles and shotguns.
So yes Scheels is #1

I love the old hardware store gun counters and LGS of the past, but they can't make it anymore with the internet and big box stores offering more selection and prices the LGS can't match. What these big boxers can't match is the years of practical knowledge found at many established older local stores.

The billings montana scheels has always had the best prices on primers I could find anywhere, including the internet. I have to drive an hour and a half to get there and i still save more money than buying online ( dang hazmat fees) . I love the buy online pick up in store option, and the aquarium is sweeeet!

I'm a Scheels fan. Their prices seem competitive or better on most gun/reloading stuff. But their reloading equipment inventory always blows me away. Annealing machines, lots of Dillon presses, press accessories by the cart full, etc. I'm a kid in a candy store. But I get where the LGS can be a more inviting environment. You can get more of that one-on-one personal experience.

I am a Scheels fan as well. I have a Cabelas 10 miles north of me and a Scheels 30 miles south of me, I will head south every time. They have a decent selection of firearms at decent prices along with long guns that you can go hands on with and not have an employee hovering over you. Speaking of employees, it is pretty cool that all of the employees are stakeholders in the company.
Putting shooting aside, I am a fisherman both open and hard water and they have a great selection at reasonable prices. The store is clean, the store near me has real security personnel working, good selection of anything pertaining to sporting goods and even a Ferris wheel … :).
As for local gun shops, I would love it if we had one worth a damn near me. The county I live in is high dollar and they know it, you will typically pay two to three hundred dollars more for a given handgun and there are enough, not all but certainly enough, wanna be commando operators working these stores that it’s just annoying to even step foot into.

The only Scheels I've been in was the store in Lincoln, NE. Some years back I was visiting family there and went to Scheels to avoid going to the mall with my wife and my cousin. They had a good deal on a rifle that I had the hots for and so I bought it. The staff was really genuinely friendly and did not pressure me on anything.

A few years later a group of us were going prairie dog hunting in northwest Nebraska and we were stopping for the night. We decided to go to Scheels to buy our hunting licenses. We didn't get there until 8:00 PM so it was getting close to closing time. A problem developed with the computer system for the licenses and they were working hard to fix it. The store closed at 9:00 PM and we figured that the staff would tell us to come back the next day, but they told us that they would stay as long as necessary to get our licenses. This was great as we wanted to get on the road early in the AM. Naturally, to kill time, we looked over their shooting products and between the 5 of us we spent over $2,000 on guns and related items. At about 10:00 PM we got our licenses. The staff remained friendly and helpful, never making us feel like we were inconveniencing them.

Yes, they have all kinds of non-shooting products but that helps keep a place like that in business. I found their stockage of firearms to be quite extensive and reasonably priced. The handguns were in locked cases and required a staff member to open them, but the long guns were on racks where you could take them and look them over and fondle them.

I don't like Bas Pro or Cabella's. Too many of the staff behind the gun counter act like you are bothering them and too often I heard them talk to customers like they were complete idiots. Some customers are, but good sales people act professionally.

No Bass Pro close to me. Scheels is too far to be convenient. Cabelas is 12 miles away. Sportsmans is about 6. Rarely go in either but more so Sportsmans.

MidwayUSA and a local caster get most of my business.

Huge fan, for me they've replaced Cabela's and Cabela's is a lot closer for me.

Scheels sells quality kit, not off shore nock-offs. They often have free shipping and they're very quick getting things to me. I've still got my Cabela's CC, but it hasn't been used since my 1st purchase at Scheels.

Scheels, Sportsman's Warehouse and Cabela's all local here. Now a Cal-Ranch. All are higher than most of the LGS.

I have Cabela's, Scheels and Sportsman's Warehouse credit cards, all have a zero balance because of their pricing being so high.

We are getting a Scheels in Tulsa. I’m excited and will probably shop there a few times a year. I’ve been to the one in N Texas (The Colony, I think) and was impressed by their selection.
They had a Henry Big Boy X Model in .357 for $900. They were and still are hard to find. I *SHOULD* have bought it. But, alas, I did not and am still holding out not wanting to buy the “market tax for the hot lever gun category” currently.

Now if they would get a supply of large rifle primers they would be perfect in my book.

Just got a Scheels in Idaho. Love that place. Cabela’s went down the toilet when Bass Pro took them over. I would NEVER buy a gun from Cabelas since they do not allow dry fire or any manipulation with the trigger lock removed.

People who shop at Dick’s are supporting the anti-gun movement.

It’s always a personal decision.

Show Me: I’ve had no reason to go into Bass Pro for years.
How and around When were they anti-gun?
