Now proud to say the Mighty MO!
I've actually posted about this before, but got distracted by other projects. I've done some more snooping and I want to see if anyone has any recommendations. The problem is that sometime the slide fails to lock back on an empty mag. So far the slide always locks when pulled by hand but fails ~25% of the time when actually firing. If you look at the attached pictures I think you can see what's going on:

Upper right: This is how the slide stop should look, pressed up by the mag follower

Upper left: This is what it looks like when it fails to lock back. Due to a bit of wiggle between the mag body and well and the follower and mag body it is possible for the follower to slip around the right side of the stop.

Lower left: You can also see it in the other pictures, but notice the gap between the slide lock and the outside of the frame, I'm not sure if this is intentional to allow free movement or if mine is bent, but if it laid flat against the frame it might protrude farther into the gun enough to fix it.

Lower right: This is a mec-gar 12 round .40 cal mag which I believe is advertised as "witness/baby eagle/maybe another one" as you can see the "shelf" on the black follower is not large enough to engage the lock no matter which way it wiggles. I've noticed mags for the original Jerico 941 have the same follower. This leads me to believe there must be a slide stop that protrudes farther into the gun. I think swapping out for one of those is what I need.

The length of the tab that extends from the inside face of the stop into the gun is .275 on my gun. I'm curious if witness/baby eagle/CZ owners have one that is longer?

I've so far tried two Mag. Research 10 round factory mags. 3 Jerico mags (with red followers) and the above Mec-gar (again with a red follower) and all show similar behavior so I don't think I'm in a bad mag(s) situation.

Obviously the other way to attack this would be to reduce the mag-well wiggle or the follower-mag wiggle. I've tried the former and anything that tightens it up also acts as a mag-break, which I don't like. I'm reluctant to try the later as I don't want to cause the follower to bind on the way up.

So, to recap in a nutshell, if anyone knows a thing or three about C(lone)Z slide stops please chime in, I'd like to get this otherwise very sweet little gun running 100%

Thanks

I actually have experimented extensively with the various CZ/CZ Clone slide stops in the various types of guns. You are correct in that one of the primary differences is how far the stop tab protrudes into the frame and thus how it enganges the follower. The longest stop tabs I have seen are on the CZ-75, with the IMI guns a bit shorter, and Tanfoglios the shortest. Also each company has used different sized notches in the follower to engage the tab, or none at all in the case of older 75 magazines. To ensure compatability with the widest range of magazines with an IMI gun, you can use a CZ-75 slide stop. I did that for a time with my 9mm Baby Eagle, thus allowing use of old style 75 magazines, Witness magazines, and IMI magazines (as well as various aftermarket ones). All locked the slide back with the 75 stop, but not with an IMI or Tanfoglio stop. I have since laid in a good supply if Tanfoglio magazines and they work with the original slide stop, so I switched back. I prefer it due to the look and ease of release.

Note that the new 16 round CZ-75 magazines did not work in the Eagle as the mag catch notch is in a slightly different spot. Off topic, but interesting to me. I suspect the hole could be enlarged to fix this while still remaining within tollerances for both guns.

So to recap you should based on my experience be able to use a CZ-75 stop and get the result you want. Be aware that it may leave a bit of worn finish exposed where the different shaped Eagle stop wore on the frame. It will also likely fit a bit tight. It took significant force to install mine, but it ran perfectly that way. Mind you I did not test it for more than 50 rounds.

I was just looking at CZ's parts store I notice they list different part numbers for the 75 .40 and the 75/85 9mm. Any idea what the difference is? The eagle is a .40 but I'm not sure that means I'd need a .40 cal 75 slide stop.

Hmm....now you have me on that one. I had a 40 Eagle at one time and it locked fine on the 41AE Tanfoglio magazines. Those are the dual caliber ones you tend to see now sold as 40 mags. So I had not tried the slide-stop swap at that time. It was my 9mm Eagle that led to the experimenting, and when I ordered the stop from CZ they did not specify. Perhaps a call is in order. I would just say you need a spare stop for a CZ and ask if there is a difference between the two. The chaps at CZ-USA are great to deal with. Being fellow Missourians I may be a bit biased...
