Wierd. And this from the MD DNR website:

Endocrine disruption in fish has become a frequent topic in the news media. Chemical compounds found in sewage effluent and other sources are believed to cause hormonal changes in some fish resulting in an intersexed condition. Intersexing, a condition in which male fish produce the protein responsible for egg production and/or produce eggs within the testes, has been found in the Potomac watershed.

Lots of smallmouth bass being affected by this.

While it's possible that this was a normal mutation that might have happened without any intervention of man, there's a lot of speculation that we're causing these kind of problems with the hormones that we're sending out in our sewage. While it's a great idea not to flush your extra meds down the commode, it's a problem that our bodies don't "use up" all the meds we take in. The leftover meds get sent to the water processing plants, that simply can't remove the steroids and hormonal meds that we take or send down the drain.

What's the answer? Beats hell outa me.

When my wife lived in Oregon, her boss's son shot a blacktailed doe with a nice rack of antlers. When he realized that this freak of nature was a doe, he was a little freaked out. By her account, (third hand at least by this point), he was too addled to eat it.

I would think its a hatchery fish and not a native, so it's most likely a natural mutation.

Those are some strange ones alright. We have ling fish up in Wyoming, called poor man's lobster because of the taste, but oh so ugly! Ever have a fish wrap its tail around your arm when you pick it up? Prehistoric looking is the most attractive thing I can say about them.:uhoh:
