My Su-16 due to its size and accuracy has become my favorite walk about rifle, so I'm gonna justify spending some money here. I've got a great 6x42 ruskie scope that I really like, but thats not an exceptionally practical scope for most of the closer stuff I find myself doing these days. So heres what I need:

A very low power scope/red dot/holographic/whatever scope that excells at close in shooting, this thing should be easy on the batteries and capable of being used night or day. I'd like to spend around 350 with mount included here, any suggestions?

I need a sling for this thing, and the Kel-tec factory sling is sort've a joke so any alternate ideas here?

Lastly I need some 20rnd mags, so who makes a quality 20rnd mags(preferably aluminum) and what are some effective ways to carry 2-4 around in the field? I dont need a vest or anything here.

This is the first rifle I've ever owned that I really dont mind spending money on, not a single malf and it hits whatever I aim at. Its light as a feather and the bipod keeps it from getting nasty if I have to set it down for any reason.

Check out ktog.org

Thats where I got the info to pimp my su16. As for optics spend a little more and get an IOR Valdada 3X25 CQB w/ Illuminated Reticle. Great glass, and if you shop around you can find them for like 500. You can fit one mag in the stock another in the weapon. Jacket with big pocket for the rest :D ... Or a camelback...

Their 20 rounder discussion board...

Where on earth!?!?!?!?! I paid 475 for my CA and that was a discount since I buy so much crap from that store!!!!! :cuss: Hell if they are that cheap I will buy another!!!

I guess gunbroker has them for about that much now.... Darn....

Well they have two or three that are that cheap the rest are just a bit below retail...

you should check out the russian PK AS red/black dot. It is available from tantal, comes in a weaver style base, has a very small black dot surrounded by a circle, and the dot can be illuminated at will to several different brightness levels. About $220. This rifle of yours sounds like a great truck gun/shtf survival gun. and inexpensive to boot. The ability to fold is really nice. Is it reliable?

I've got maybe 2300+ rounds down the tube by now, and its jammed 3 times..all 3 times were pranks(friend handing me a magazine loaded with an empty case in the middle). It folds nice and small, and has been 100% reliable and accurate when it matters.

Question about that Russkie PK AS, that was my first thought but I'm worried about how high it sits? You have one mounted on anything? I've been looking at the Kobra aswell.

Best group with the SU sofar, Winchester black box 55gr. My SU loves that stuff above all others.

I have been considering getting another .223 rifle. I saw an SU-16 at the last gun show and it felt real solid. I think I would rather get that over a 16" AR. It would be able to use all my AR mags also and give me the excuse to buy more. :)

I wanted a CA, but could only find the C. I swapped stocks with a guy who had an "A" model and wanted the folder.

Thats a phatom flash supressor, which has semi-sharpened prongs to dig into clothing or whatnot. I've been using it to cut barbed wire actually! Press into the fence..line it up...pull the trigger..BANG..cut. The Phantom is also threaded to presumably take a silencer! If they made one for the AK I'd have one on my Saiga! I've fired it several times in the night and found the phantom to be -exceptional-!

Would you guys like me to take detail pictures of the flash supressor?

Just got the ATN red dot, will review when it arrives.

The cheapest SU-16 sold on Gunbroker.com appears to have gone for $350. I think they are selling for over $500 every day.

PK-AS scope

I saw the part of this thread about the PK-AS scope. I picked up one of these from a fellow THR and I love it. I mounted it on the lower part of the rail on an ARMS Sir system AR Bushhamster. The mount does put the site fairly high, about 1/2 inch above the level of the sights, but I can get a decent chin/cheek weld.

the sight is about as rugged as you can get. Rosie Odonnell could sit on it and probably not break it. The russians made this sucker tough!

If you can pick up one of these sights, i suggest it, highly.

It'd also be really cool if Kel-Tec made a thumbhole stock (I guess more Beretta Storm-ish thumbhole than SL8-ish thumbhole) catering more to the optics user crowd.

I use a Bushnell 1.5-4.5 scope on my "a" model and it works great for the price. No problems holding zero, click adjustments actually seem to mean something, and the glass is decent. It's not a super-tactical scope but works really well for the up to 200 yards I usually shoot at, dialed down to 1.5 you can easily shoot with both eyes open for close range work.

GET YOUR MAGS FROM:

CPRODUCTS http://cproductsllc.com/

They are currently the best mags on the market!!

Please review the ATN red dot when you get a chance.

ETA: PS, no sh*t you can hit what you aim at....look at the size of that scope! I am sure you will find a bit larger group downrange when you move to a 4moa red dot. Your rifle will be a bit lighter as well. :)

OK my optic came, the ATN Ultra Dot DC.

The good:
Its small
Its light
It came with a little rubber hood to keep it dry
Its delightfully bright!

The bad:
Adjustment is an absolute bitch
The adjustment set screws are some flavor of aluminum, and the insides already stripped or maybe the supplied wrench? Will try to see if I cant just throw some replacements in there.
The "Lock" screw, is 100% non-op

I take it to the range tomarrow, and will report the rest. Its been boresighted on the laser and I'll report the rest tomarrow. If it holds zero, I'll keep it. Otherwise this thing goes back to www.midwayusa.com
