I recently had a post up asking for help with the CMP. I wound up driving to the north store, and picking myself up a nifty ol' rifle. Went in for a service grade, they said "we're out for now :( ", so I picked up a field grade and some ammo instead. I'll probably rebarrel it after a little while, and get a new stock.

I know, i know, no pics yet--I need to borrow someone's digital camera and take some snapshots for y'all.

But, most of all, I want to thank everyone for their help they gave me before the trip!!! Not that everyones help wasn't equally useful, but especially Blackfork--he's the man to ask if you're confused on anything about the whole process! :) . Pics soon.

You can always just place the mail order for a service grade.

I actually received a service grade yesterday:

I also received a field grade yesterday on the same order, too:

M1 Garands. You don't stop with just one.

The SG gauged 3 on the throat and 2 on the muzzle whereas the FG gauged 4 on the throat and 2 on the muzzle.

The field grade in the above picture had knife etchings all over it. I'm going to refinish it considering it has no collector value whatsoever.

I'm really tempted to order a Service, but I'm really afraid of getting a cruddy one, and a road trip is pretty much out of the question (gas costs would be at least $200-300, plus food and lodging for 2 nights) unfortunately.
