windernine,
it is a double, and quite heavy as i have read nagants are.......it came with a nice looking holster, cleaning rod and tool too!

OK, you've graduated; now *marry* that girl! Any SO that gives you not one, but two, guns is definitely a keeper!

I'm a lucky one, too. Over the years, my wife has given me a Colt PPS and a Winchester .223 Sporter Varmint and never even raised an eyebrow when I came home with a "can't pass this deal up" nickeled pre-Model 20 S&W Heavy Duty on Valentine's Day!

Everyone says the Nagant is ugly. It is, but I think it's cool looking. I might buy one just for kicks one of these days.

Fiocci still makes the unusual 7.62mm ammunition for the revolver. Though, it's expensive and hard to find, I've heard. You might want to look into getting one of those .32ACP cylinders that Federal Arms sells.

The Makarov is a great gun, by all accounts. Not extremely powerful, but it has a small edge over a .380 and I hear they're stone cold reliable.

Fiocchi 7.62 Nagant ammo...

...can usually be found at Old Western Scrounger. They seem to be out of stock right now, but it's usually thirty-something bucks for a box of fifty. You can also try tracking down a .32 ACP cylinder for it.

Enjoy your piece of history! :D

thanks Tamara
that is a nice pic youve got there
better than my first attempt at "gun porn"
hehe
the nagant will probably only be shot a little
the Mak will be shot a lot and possibly carried when I move to GA soon and live in a place that allows such things
cant believe I got the price I did on the nagant, 100 bucks at SOG
if you have been thinking about getting one I would get one now, I have wanted one for a while and this is the cheapest I have ever seen them!

by the way fellas, I took both ladies to the range today where they performed marvelously.....thankfully there are no pictures of my dreadful shot groupings but i will practice up
the Mak ate up 100 rounds of Wolf FMJ without a single hitch
im psyched about these guns :)

You've got a couple of really cool pistols there. I am a big Mak fan myself, and carry a Bulgie as my primary carry gun. The russians sure know how to make a good gun!

Just a reminder, if you can't find or afford Nagant ammo, the Nagant will safely shoot S&W 32 longs. The cases will bulge.

the 32 SW long is what I shot out of i the other day...
not too bad.....
David4516,
no kidding, the russians sure picked a good one with the Mak
I never thought I would describe it as elegant but after taking it apart a few times the simplicity of the design and its nice looks (IMO) make it just that

The Mak is a great gun. When I first got mine, I didn't expect alot from such a "cheap" gun. But I was pleasantly suprized, and now the Mak is my fav handgun...

I am thinking about buying a second one. I'd like to have one for collection pourpses, and one to shoot/carry, the idea being that I'll have a nice, clean, new looking Mak to show off but I'll still get to use the other one...

Here's a site with low cost ammo for your Mak
http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/index.html

And makarov.com has a lot of info.

I've got several thousand rounds of the 120 grain SB JHP but the last thousand I ordered was 115 grain JHP.

The early Silver Bear 120 gr was a little long and would not fit in some mags.

I chronographed it. 1000fps and the JHP mushrooms good in one water jug.

I wouldn't give the gun a steady diet of this ammo without going to a 21 pound recoil spring. ($9)

I've got 21 pound springs in my 9 Maks and they function 100% even with my lightest reloads.

It's a little harder to pull the slide back for a smaller lady.

A neighbor's wife had not shot a semi auto and hadn't shot much at all. After three practice sessions she shot 244 out of 250 on the Texas CHL test.
She insisited I sell her the Mak.:)

Enjoy your new hardware.

Fellas,
i love makarov.com
my second order from them is on the way....i already got a cleaning kit and i have pearce grips and a mag loader (that 8th round is hard to get in there!) coming to me
fun gun....i need some more ammo though....hopefully i wont buy too much and have no money :)
but that wouldnt be that bad of a thing would it ;) ?

The 32acp cylinders can be found in "The Shotgun News" I was just checking them out and they have the Nagant revolver also.:)

Graf & Sons sells the Fiocchi 7.62 Nagant ammo. They also sell the Berry's HBWC plated bullets and the Starline .32-20 brass which you will need when you buy your Lee 7.62 Nagant reloading die kit from www.makarov.com They also sell those .32acp cycinders there.

I'll let you know how my loadings go when I get the gear. So far all I have is the gun . . . a 1940 Ruskie with bakelile grips, holster, cleaning rod, screw driver, lanyard. It's been rearsenaled based on the star on the trigger?
