bogie, those are good ideas, but I would like to see them used to raise money to buy ads that have more national impact.
One of the problems that we suffer from is that we have been swept under the rug. "Only good reason for a gun is to kill somebody," is a mentality that is held by too many in this country.
Local events and grassroot stuff is great, it helps. I try every day to get another person to the range. But the point here was to parlay this in to a national event.
I would paste-up posters asking for donations to buy national advertising (doesn't have to be USA TODAY, but they are national). Something where you see results! It can go or die. One big 1/2 page ad in USA TODAY might be a flop, but damn if it wouldn't have a lot of folks talking for quite some time. It just feels right to me.

Right now, I am off to the range!

Question. How many members here at thehighroad? Most of us are members of gun clubs, ranges, hunting clubs. What if we ALL were to present this 20/07 idea to our fellow members, family, friends in order to raise funds for our common fight? Think this would raise enough cash. ??

Silly Little Tribes-Tamara

-About time Silly Little Tribes woke up, quit fighting one another and pulled together for the common goal. Called Freedom.

-It has come to my attention, that Politicians have "taken note" of Grassroots efforts, and plan to use Internet to "reach these grassroots".
[I won't insert tacky comment on my brain about elected persons are supposed to represent people and that is why we call elected folks Representatives]

-I understand "Chain of Command". Then again the environment and times I was raised in, I was always invited to " go to the top" . So I never thought anything about going to head person anywhere, about anything.
I respected protocol, chain and command and everything, still when I was told I could go to the top, I did.
I dunno, everyone puts on their underwear like I do, legs go through the darn underwear...

Grassroots is fine, great, and will always be needed. All sorts of reasons exists from more centralized concerns that are best handled by that local, interest or whatever.

I am just too hard headed to be divided up by .gov, Tyranny and whomever else that want to "think" that folks can be easily divided and conquered if Silly Little Tribes are pitted against each other...
If these folks thinking "hit and run" attacks on grassroots folks is going to work.

I mean while "they" are hitting grassroots, , nitpicking silly little tribes...
WE The People , represented, in Newspaper Ad, all United together
<Whistle> Hey - You looking for us? Here we are ALL United . :D

Say Teddy, how did this happen? Well Bloomie old boy I don't rightly know, ask Hillary maybe she does...

As they see Pink Pistols standing alongside a Firearms Mfg, alongside a lLadies Trap Team, alongside a known trainer and writer, and the Publishers from Magazines, Ammo companies, Hunters, 3 gunners, IPSC, IDPA, Black-powder shooters, Geezer Squad that shoots Bulls-Eye...

Teddy liable to drop his drink...:D

NRA, JPFO, GOA ,SFA...etc. Got an extra $20.07 you do not what to do with?
Want to donate more, great!

Gadsden Group. I sorta like myself. Look real nice with the Gadsden Flag Logo don't you think?

Personally, I'm more the artistic-type and not the GIT-R-DUN type, so I do what I can and here's what I came up with:

This pic is NOT used with permission but only as a proof-of-concept illustration. And my apologies to anyone in this photo -- my intent is not to imply or suggest anyone pictured is a criminal. The actual picture would be a group of people all posing with weapons that the current proposed HR 1022 ban would affect. Pistols, rifles, EBR's, shotguns, whatever.

Oops. Just noticed my misspellings, heh. Just ignore those please.

The second pic is a screencap I took of fly320s' .doc file. I decided to do this to better explain what my idea was, since, upon re-reading my earlier post, I think it was unclear.

Finally, I think the phrase "Act together. Act now." is an excellent mantra which would be well-used as a unifying theme for several different ads or pictures or posters or what have you. I didn't think of it until just now, otherwise I'd have put it in my proof-of-concept picture below.

Wow. Just...wow.

This brainstorm is throwing out bright flashes of insight and pouring down good ideas.

"Act together. Act now." Brilliant.

I am not creative or good with words.

This is extremely important however, and I am being forced to work OT.

Tell me where to send the money

NukemJim

I've been following this thread for quite awhile now and it overflows with good ideas.... Except for where to send the money! I suppose someone is being practical instead of artistic and actually trying to set up some sort of organization to do some of what has been envisioned here but unless we get a name and address to send the money to pretty soon, the excitement stands a good chance of wearing off.
I have NO experience at running this sort of thing or I'd jump right up and volunteer. As it is, if I were to try to run it I'd probably run us into some sort of legal blind alley and wipe out everything we started. But there must be someone among us who has experience handling other people's money and dealing with advertisers. Come on folks, we're trying to come together here, instead, everybody (including me) seems to be locked into full reverse.

!

Update.

-As soon as I get confirmation for address to send money; address will be posted.

-Monies contributed will be a determining factor on layout, size and newspaper chosen.

Just like asking for contributions toward any event; amount of monies raised determine speakers, food, prizes, and turnout.

I am asking for contributions. Please.

What I have not shared to this point is I have asked one magazine publisher to watch this thread, and the response to this thread, everyone being civil, polite and organized and monies contributed will determine if this publisher chooses to contribute financially and as to how much.

Anti-Gun , Gun Grabbers , Politicians, Tyranny has been more organized than we Pro-Gun Folks that believe in Freedom, including but not limited to Second Amendment.

We as responsible firearm owners are wanted - dead or alive.
This is serious business.

I and others are not willing to let Gun Grabbers and Tyranny beat us. We are willing to prove that WE as responsible gun owners are not only organized, we are also better organized, more civil and polite about it.

Raise the bar and keep raising it.-Rich Lucibella.

I am challenging folks to step up the plate and contribute financially.

-Individuals
-Gun store owners, gunsmiths.
-Firearm Mfgs.
-Firearm Related Equipment mfgs.
-Magazines of all genre' that target various markets of firearm owners.
-Ammunition , Reloading components both smokeless and black-powder
-Writers , editors and contributing to anything firearm related
-Training facilities, Gun clubs, Ranges.
Anything from known self defense training, to clay sports, preserves for game shooting, black-powder, ...any kind of firearm for any kind of use where one can shoot, get lessons, get training.
-CCW Instructors.
-Hunter Safety Instructors
-Hunting Guides, Hunting Lodges, Bush Pilots...
-Forums, Blogs, anything that Freedom and Firearms are part of Mission Statements and reason for being.
-Organizations. Pink Pistols, GOA, JPFO, NRA, SASS, Ducks Unlimted, Quail Unlimited...Any organization, that firearms , no matter what kind, or how used is part of that organization. Local levels - to National Level.

Etc.

WE proved with Real Time of Internet , WE are paying attention and can Unite, no matter what role firearms play in OUR lives.

This is serious business with what is going on from Federal Levels of Politics, to State, to County to Local Levels.

We have to stay United. Use the talents, energies and resources as one voice to stand up, and take the Offensive, and let our enemies know we will not be divided into Silly Little Tribes and be defeated.

Thank you.

Respectfully,

Steve

In an effort to try to keep this thing going, I am going to do some checking to see if I can find out what must be done (formation of charitable organization or whatever). No promises, but I really feel that the NRA and GOA do a good job with what they do (lobbying, teaching, training, etc.), we need someone or something to promote by advertising in the mainstream.

Okay, an up-date.
I have gotten the forms and information that is necessary to form a not-for-profit organization in the state of Florida (that is the first step). This can be done under the heading of education.
As the requirements for a charitable organization are:

“Charitable organizations” must be operated for these purposes: charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sports competition, and the prevention of cruelty to children or animals. Charitable includes relief of the poor, the distressed, or the underprivileged; advancement of religion; advancement of education or science; erection or maintenance of public buildings, monuments, or works; lessening the burdens of government; lessening of neighborhood tensions; elimination of prejudice and discrimination; defense of human and civil rights secured by law; and combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency."

I tried to talk to some lawyers, but as soon as you say gun they say it won't work. I have not gone through the fiduciary aspects yet, and will likely have to talk to a CPA at least (if not a tax attorney), but the process seems to be: set-up a not-for profit corporation within the state, then file for tax status with IRS.
Has to be non-taxable monies, does not have to be a charity--which means that donations are tax deductible.
In fact I think it better to do one similar to the NRA which is a not-for-profit, but not a charitable.

The bottom line is this:
This is not a trivial undertaking. This is not a weekend project, and it is not a one-time deal. If we really want to do this, it is going to be a many month project just to get it going. I feel very strongly about this, I am going to peruse this farther (at least to finding out all that this entails and the specific type of organization that would fit our purposes), but soon it is going to require some folks stepping up.
I am envisioning an organization that advertises the support of the RKBA. Let the NRA and GOA do the lobbying, legal, training, etc. This would simply be education through advertising. But that alone is going to require legal support and more.
When I get a better handle on exactly what needs to be done, I will let you know. But at the very least, it will be months and months with the state and IRS to set this up, and I suspect the fever will break and be gone.
We shall see.

I can only speak for myself but my fever is chronic not acute. It will still be here in months and months and years and years.

I've been worried that the finances, advertising, etc. would be managed by an internet committee. Now it looks like individuals are getting serious and two are committed to making this a reality. I respect the individuals, and trust them to deliver something good.

Dr. Dickie is on the right track for realizing sm's idea. I hope they are directly working together. Perhaps in the short-run sm could look to partner with the SAF for this campaign--they collect the money and buy the ad space with that money, while the ad and media is decided upon by sm. For the long-run, Dr. Dickie's non-profit could offer sustained, focused advertising with an expanded donor base.

I pledge $20.07 to the ad campaign.

Thanks to Ezypikns, from here: www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=261041&page=2, I have another ad idea.

Again, it's an MSWord file, so right-click and open or save it and open.

edited to add: I copied the photos from Oleg's site, www.olegvolk.net. The photos aren't used with overt permission, but Oleg has said that pro-RKBA use is allowed. I don't know if everyone pictured is a gun owner.

If we publish a real ad similar to this we will need permission from everyone who appears in the ad.

I had a friend that had an excellent idea. Billboards!
Advertising on Billboards around the country, potentially reaching millions while not as costly as a single shot in USA Today.
Still perusing the Not-for-profit angle, but it in not simple and I am in the process of changing jobs at the end of the summer (I hope). Likely nothing will happen before that from me.

Billboards are an interesting idea to add to this campaign however, they are very local. I think the primary goal of 20-07 is to obtain a national ad. Perhaps this is something to progress to if an actual organization, like the non-profit you are investigating, should be created with the purpose of bringing positive awareness of gun ownership and groups of owners.

Billboards are a great idea!

Dr. Dickie
Fly320s
others, feel free to PM me.

I have some been through a personal matter; hence the reason I have been absent from this thread. I am still dealing with this matter and other conflicts in scheduling.

I just thought it best to post and keep lines of communication open.

Steve

Not to step on your toes, Fly320s, but I took another screencap for those who might not have MS Word available to view your work.

Great stuff, and I'll be able to pledge my own $20.07 as soon as I can as well as contribute any time or artistic effort if it's desired.

I'm in, and not just for the money. If there's anything I can do (I, too have access to airplanes; I have a server and good hosting; I'll even distribute handbills, if that what it takes--just post a call with what you need), just ask.

In this instance, I think the suggestion of "preaching to the choir" is a good one, but a poor metaphor. What we need to do is educate our fellow gunnies, both in what's covered by the ban (many of them still think it's about machine guns), and B) in how it's a step down the path of a complete ban.
