Just want to double check that my current research is correct.

It would be legal for me to move to anywhere in Pennsylvania with 6 .40 cal Glocks, 2 LMT AR's, a couple .22lr rifles, a couple revolvers, maybe another pistol or two.... a whole lot of high-cap mags for the ARs and Glocks, and a whole lot of ammo?

I'd be coming from Florida.

Everything I've read so far implies that the answer is yes. I checked some older threads (some of which I started), and googled a few items individually. Packing.org seems to be down unfortunately right now though.

None of those items are restricted in PA. If you plan to carry, PA is shall-issue, but Philadelphia drags its feet in issuing CCW licenses (Mayor Street seems to think CCW license holders are the cause of much of the city's violent crimes).

Where are you thinking of moving in PA?

In PA, we take RKBA seriously, and pretty much treat it as a right, which "shall not be questioned".

We're also a class III state. :)

In fact the only thing that's actually restricted are exotic firearms built to look like something else for the purpose of concealment. (ie: no sniper rifles hidden in crutches, that sort of thing)

You can come carrying all that gear like Neo in The Matrix if you so choose. It may raise some eyebrows, but it's legal.

I'm not certain if Philadelphia has any city-specific restrictions; you may want to check on that.

Philadelphia actually cannot have city-specific restrictions, IIRC, because of statewide preemption.

That does not, however, prevent them from trying. From what I have heard, Philly does not like guns or gun owners, and there are continual efforts to get Philly exempted from the statewide preemption law. I have no personal bad experiences with carrying in Philly, but I was very careful to keep it concealed.

Concealed carry's cool. Open carry is allowed except loaded in a car (ccw exempts this) during a declared state of emergency (ccw exempts this) or in philadelphia county (ccw exempts this - but personally I'm not sure it's worth the trouble.)

We're pretty boss as far as RKBA states go. You'll be trading your alligators for the occasional mountain lion, and I guarantee you won't get as much action from them :p

So c'mon up, there's lotsa room. But keep that florida permit if you can.. lots more reciprocity than PA resident permits.

Where are you thinking of moving in PA?

Depends on which of the Penn law schools I get into.... and which looks best.

I'm applying to all of them. U Penn Philly seems like a stretch, but all of the others are easily within range.

Temple and Villanova look most promising though.

Your going to need all that hardware if you end up at temple. I hope your a big person because that place is a rat hole.

Be aware that if you openly carry in Philadelphia, you can get charged with disturbing the peace.

Not a gun offense, but still I don't suggest doing it.

OC is legal and illegal at the same time?

I am a big guy... so Temple is ok.

Incorrect info about Philly.

You CANNOT be charged with disturbing the peace for open carry.

First, there is no such charge as "disturbing the peace" in the PA Crimes Code.

Second, open carry is legal in Philly, however you must possess a LTC. Unlike in the rest of the state where a person can open carry without having a LTC.

Taken from Commonwealth v. Hawkins;

(4) In all parts of Pennsylvania, persons who are licensed may carry concealed firearms. 18 Pa.C.S. § 6108. Except in Philadelphia, firearms may be carried openly without a license. See Ortiz v. Commonwealth, ___ Pa. ___, ___, 681 A.2d 152, 155 (1996) (only in Philadelphia must a person obtain a license for carrying a firearm whether it is unconcealed or concealed; in other parts of the Commonwealth, unconcealed firearms do not require a license).

places off limits

I am in PA working temporarily, up from VA. I have a VA permit.
What places are off limits for CC?
I can't seem to find any info.
Thank you for any help

Penn would be nice if I can make it happen.

The problems I'm facing are that if faced with a choice between Temple or Villanova and then down here in Florida - UF. UF is a 1st tier school whereas Temple and Villanova are 2nd. I'd probably feel pretty obligated to go to UF if I can't say 100% that I'm comfortable permanently moving to Penn.

On the other hand, my dream school - U Penn, Law would afford me the ability to practice pretty much anywhere I want.... but I don't think last Saturday that I pulled the necessary 170 on the LSAT. In fact, I doubt I even pulled a 160 despite my practice exams usually scoring about a 165.

Everything about Penn seems perfect (not just gun related, but in all aspects). I just have to figure out if I can either somehow get into U Penn Law.... or else make myself comfortable with Temple or Villanova or UP.

I've been wrestling with figuring out where to live for over a year now. RKBA factors into my decision along with everything else. I've ruled out pretty much most of the country as places to live. It's down to Penn, Washington State, or staying here in Florida.

yeah... I won't be risking that, so no worries.

it's freaking hard enough right now applying to law school. I won't be risking getting booted wherever I go.

cheese....... get an education first..... then decide where you would like to live.... U of P will get you whatever you need if you succeed.

U of P would get me wherever - exactly. Which is why it's my dream school.

The general advice seems to be if you don't go to a top 10 or so law school, you're much better off going to law school in the area you want to practice.

Problem is, I highly doubt I will get into a top 10 school. So, I've been stuck with this really difficult decision of deciding where I want to live prior to going to law school.

I could possibly make things work if I don't get into a top 10 school, it's just harder to do. For example, I could possibly go to U of F or UM and try to get top grades, then try to get a job with a large firm that is recruiting that has offices where I want to live.

If I get into a top 10, or even 20 school - I'll go to it regardless of where it is. If I don't, I'd be best served thinking ahead as to where I want to end up.

Fortunately, I have choices in Penn even if I don't go to U Penn as my LSAT and GPA are likely good enough for all the other schools there.

I'm just trying to make sure I don't get myself stuck in an area I don't want to be.
