MY NEW MOSSY!!

I just finished putting my new (well, to me anyway…) Mossberg M44US back together after cleaning up everything a little bit. I took the obligatory insurance/pride photos and figured I’d post ‘em for review! It’s a low one hundred thousand S/N with a good looking parkerized finish and a clear “US Property” mark. The stock was pretty dirty, and kinda dinged, so I cleaned it up and put a couple of coats of tung oil on it just for protection. I actually left the dings because they weren’t too bad and I like the character they add. I’m planning on shooting it both for fun (of course), and to practice for service rifle competition.

Looks good.

You've probably figured out that how tight you adjust the front swivel will really affect your accuracy since the swivel is connected to the barrel band.

These don't have the best trigger out there (a'la Kimber 82) but for a 60+ year old trainer, they are fun to shoot. You can get parts for them here if you need them:

You can fix that little front swivel issue by removing the factory swivel assembly and replacing this with a 1 1/4" Uncle Mikes fixed swivel, free floating the barrel channel, and Accra Glassing the stock cut out to provide a bedding pad for the barrel band.
The band doesn't screw or attach to anything now it just sets down into the bedding.
Big improvement.
I did this and added a set of Lyman MJT sights to my 44US and it now shoots as well as many higher cost Target rifles.
I also added a solid aluminum trigger guard without the finger grooves.
Another big improvement to the overall feel of the rifle and the guard will never warp again.
