here we go again with the sensationalism in "journalism":

MIAMI — A 20-year-old with a weapons cache that included four AK-47s was arrested after threatening over the Internet to undertake a Virginia Tech-style massacre, authorities said Thursday.

Oregon authorities learned of a March 25 Internet message allegedly posted by Calin Chi Wong in which he threatened to re-enact the Virginia Tech killings. Two days later, Homestead Police searched the home Wong shares with his parents and found the weapons in stacked on shelves in plain view, Detective Antonio Aquino said.

Wong had 13 firearms in all, more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition, some that could pierce armor, and 100 rounds in a feeding clip with bullets "meant to take down aircraft or military machinery," Aquino said. He had hidden two AK-47s in his parents' closet, and his parents said the guns did not belong to them, Aquino said.

Wong was charged with making written threats to kill or do bodily injury via the computer and bonded out for $7,500. Additional charges are pending, he said.

It was not known whether he had a lawyer. A message left by The Associated Press at a phone number listed for Wong was not immediately returned Thursday evening. The phone at his employer, China King, rang unanswered.

Homestead Police first noticed Wong when he went to the department in February to complain he had been robbed of $800 over the Internet after he ordered a gun online using his father's PayPal account.

He told authorities he had called the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and other agencies about the issue. Aquino said Wong finally reached a boiling point when he posted the message saying he would re-enact the Virginia Tech massacre, in which student Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people last year before turning the gun on himself.

"After speaking to him and seeing his frustration, I believe that he had the potential to carry out some kind of threat," Aquino said.

Wong felt isolated and cut off, authorities noted, saying he had been buying and selling guns for about two years and word was now getting around about Wong's age. Dealers stopped selling to him, and he was being banned from certain gun-sale Web sites.

Aquino said Wong told police that making the threat made him feel good because after "he had thousands of people on the Internet paying attention to him."

Wong told police he was just upset and frustrated and never actually planned a killing spree, Aquino said.

But authorities also found a school book bag lined with bulletproof vests inside Wong's home, as well as two handguns.

Wong is not in college, Aquino said. He graduated from an Oregon high school and attended a college for a year before moving in with his parents in Florida, authorities said.

Wong said the weapons were an investment.

"He says it's a lucrative business," Aquino said. "He said if Hillary Clinton wins she'll put a ban on assault rifles, and these assault rifles will be worth more in value."

not sure if he's smart or nuts?

Bobby

I don't see how his actions could be seen as smart. Depressed, self-indulgent and lacking a sense of personal responsibility is more like it.

What, this makes no sense... They wouldn't sell b/c of his age?? huh? the media are Idiots... I'd like to know what really happened. If he was really making threats I have no problem with him being arrested though.. can't have another nut making all of us look bad.

Well golly gee, does that mean people are held accountable when they make extreme statements on the Internet about killing other people?

Dude, like is this real life and not a video game? :)

whoa! Where did he get AKs chambered for 20mm?!

What the heck are bullets "meant to take down aircraft or military machinery" ?

No wait.... I was wrong. 20mm can't take down aircraft. It must have been chambered for 30mm.

I hope he had some kind of recoil pad. That darn thing must recoil enough to rip your collar bone in two.

I believe under Fed law you have to be 21 to buy a handgun. Maybe they had also realized he's nuts so wouldn't sell to him.

I traced the news stories and some links around, turns out that guy hung around here, mostly in the "Trade & Sales" area trying to make deals.

His moniker was "Hambun" if you want to look up some of his posts. It seems like he had good intentions, but was certainly at least a little nuts.

Weird stuff.

Just goes to show you to watch what you say on a public forum. He might actually be nuts. But he might also just be a normal guy who got a little carried away with his internet commando-ness. Some people think they post in anonymity - this proves they do not. So don't post anything in a forum that wouldn't be appropriate to say anywhere else.

5000 rds and 13 firearms... I am just a bit short of that so I wonder if people think I am about to blow.

I buy in bulk because it is cheaper and easier.

Do you think the media would find it strange that I have over 100 rolls of TP in my house.

Wow. I just did a little reading and realize who he was/is. *shudder*

At least they wouldn't think you FOS.

when will the MSM be held accountable for the statements like:

with bullets "meant to take down aircraft or military machinery,"

What does that even mean? We have established that small arms fire has little effect on fixed wing aircraft, and do his "bullets" not affect regular machinery?

How are they allowed to continue printing such crap?

Unless your a liberal moonbat threatening a republican president

Sweet. Although, those look like ten rounders, not the 100 rounders in the story.
He probably had 10 of them and the reporter just did the mathand took some 'journalistic liberty' to save his intellectually challenged readers the trouble of taxing their brains too much.

First post :) aloha all

funny watching the news and the news guy just said
"He had armor piercing bullets that could take out a military tank"

soon the story will be that he had tanks and missiles the way the news keeps going they are like little kids having to outdo each others story with more dramatics
