Of course, I know this is nothing new.... but it still bothers me.

It bothers me too.
50,60 years ago thoughts like this would not go through the minds of the media, the public and certainly not police officials.
This whats changed so drastically the last two generations.

what ho

what a difference a few yrs makes to a police dept."homestead police train citizens to resist attackers with guns" crime drops to zero as hundred of women take courses. that was the news in 1945.I was based in Key West at the time [Boca Chica naval air base.] :uhoh:--:rolleyes:-:D:D

First, I would never condone such a threat made by anyone, no matter what kind of stress or frustration one is going through. IF ANYONE MAKES SUCH A VILE AND DANGEROUS THREAT, THEY ARE AUTOMATICALLY OUT OF THE QUESTION OF BEING SENSIBLE AND LAW ABIDING.
Second, if you are a law abiding gun owner, you should have had some common sense. Storing that number of firearms and ammunition is perfectly normal, but make sure you have legal and social representation to BACK IT UP. Join the NRA or something so in that case, you will have legal power behind you in case someone f*cks with you over your collections.
Third, it is people like that kid that makes us look bad. Now, what are the people going to think of us? Maniacs, murder freaks? Threat-mongers?

It is not so much of his collection, it's more of the senseless and dangerous threat he made on the web. After the horrors of the VaTech massacre, I don't think anyone is going to treat even a slight threat with indifference.

Right on,Rachen.
My reference is to what the attitude towards the gun collection would have been 50 or 60 years ago,not the threats.
The threats would have been taken seriously, even at that time.
As far back as 1949 a lone man with a gun walking the streets of Camden,N.J. killed a dozen people in a matter of minutes.

I am still puzzled by the anti-aircraft ammo remark. Did that young man claim he wanted to shoot down aircraft? That is how I interpreted the detective's remarks. Hopefully, more details will emerge on this bizarre story.

On a different note, I regret that the media mentioned the anti-aircraft aspect of the story, even if it is true. Such publicity may give nuts further ideas. I think that part of the story should have been omitted.

Until being informed by reliable authority otherwise, I believe these inane remarks about the weapons ability to shoot down aircraft originated with the "spokesman" of the Homestead,FL Police Dept.

Except the news reports have focused very little on the comment and mostly on the collection.

Oh hey Winchester and Cheese, I meant that it was the threat that sparked the whole thing. If it is later found out that all these weapons are legally owned, then that kid is a DUMBA** for making us look like murder-freaks.

If that kid is smart, sensible, and is a member of the NRA or something else, this would not have happened.

And I finally read his posts, that guy is going insane:uhoh:
I would be frightened if I was on that forum and read these rants.

And the media is also making it worse. 50 or 60 years ago, the media would have been more positive about gun ownership. Now, they are warping everything. Look at how BBC and CNN warped the story of the Tibet riots. They are making the vicious and bloodthirsty Tibet independance rioters look like harmless and defenseless victims. Well, these "helpless victims" are responsible for the torture and deaths of 18 innocent people.

The media is not the source of real information. The Internet is.

And IIRC that whole steaming lie about shooting down aircraft originated with the brady center for lies and misinformation. The fact that the police are repeating something that's been totally debunked is unacceptable.
The guy sounds like a total whack job, that's a given. But the media and police trying to stir up fear over a fairly mild collection is NOT COOL.

LOL at 5000 rounds, this guy's a lightweight.:neener: I do agree that he should have been arrested, especially after making a threat, the kid was off his rocker, illegal for him to own handguns anyway.
