Hey all, I'm also starting to dive into woodworking, primarily because want to make some nice cases for my father's firearms, since I inherited a router and table from him also. Any pics of your creations would be appreciated.
I like to do some woodworking now and then, mainly on firearms. I'm currently finishing up a fiddleback maple stock for my 1999 Montana Rifleman action.
Here is how I start my wood working projects:
this is a video of the saw running if anyone wants to see a wood mizer working. http://s10.photobucket.com/albums/a149/Fisherman_48768/?action=view¤t=Mov08101.flv
Then you get something like this:

Then something for the step son:
The Wife and i both used to enjoy woodworking, however in recent years all our available time has went to refurbish/repair projects on ranch buildings . Trying to catch up on 40 years or so of zero maintenance in many cases .
I did woodworking for 10 years in 4-H, still play around once in a while. I've never done anything on the level of fisherman up there, but i am competent. I am NOT good enough to do guns. I tried some pistol grips and they needed more time than i had.
Poper, Cheese, Scrat thanks for the kind words. Tx1911fan, your brother did a nice job on those grips and knife handle, ask him what kind of wood burl is.
Nice work guys. My neighbour and I are working on what will be my first major woodowrking project - cabinetry for my master bath. The vanity is well on its way towards completion. Just a couple of more bits to attach to the cabinet, make the doors, and stain. the countertop will be marble tile.
great work Fisherman. I'm only looking to do handgun cases using either box or dove tail joints for the boxes, and scroll a piece of laminate to the shape of each handgun. I will probably get in to picture frames and small projects.
I do quite a bit of woodworking and have a well equipped shop: table saw, bandsaw, radial arm saw, lathe, surface planer, routers and table, jointer, drill press, 6" sander, oscillating spindle sander and lots of hand, power and cordless tools and clamps.
Those are some great pics and workmanship, thanks. Makes me want to start again and finish up a few projects I have laying around not finished...
Like a whole new kitchen and some lathe work been laying around for some time.
Lathe work will be first
4d5 Nice back yard you have there, not much watering to do, or lawn to mow, now wonder you have time for woodworking LOL... Nice thanks for the show and tell.
Fisherman the video is nice, was a little rough on the ears until I got to the volume control, how are/is Johns ears doing?
