Do you have a sense of urgency buying a black rifle or did you already buy one :D

In a way, I want one but they're just so expensive and i figure my SKS is on "their list" anyway.

I don't because the bug bit me in 2004. :)

FWIW - you can get over the "Expensive" AR thing by building one yourself . .it's dead simple and it has the attraction of being able to buy one "part" per paycheck to spread out the cost. (Building them is DEAD simple). If it was me I'd order a stripped lower for $120-$130 then when your budget allows the next "payment" buy a lower parts kit for $65-$110. Your next purchase would be your stock (collapsible or fixed).

You can then take a breather for awhile and when you get the urge spend $100 or so to pick up your Bolt and Bolt Carrier Group. The only part that can take some special skills to build yourself is the "upper" and they're not that hard, but if you don't want to do it you now have the choice of mail-ordering a pre-built upper or building your own . .if you build your own you can break those purchases up as well.

not really an urgency...but i have started gettin parts together just because the prices are comin down and the availability is goin up.

Oh and if you dont mind ordering over the internet...go to gunbroker and look up century arms of naples...they got good prices on lowers and the guy there is a pleasure to deal with...i was lucky enough that i could just go to his shop and get one since he's semi-local to me...

Parts kits can be found at various places...on the web...you just gotta look around

No urgency. I have never really cared for black rifles, and don't find much use in an expensive rifle, that would probably sit in my safe till I tip over, or the safe does...

I had no sense of urgency before I got my AR-15.
Then the elections were about to come up and I figured obama would win and decided to go ahead and get an AR last year just on the sole fact that I knew prices would jump, not cause I was afraid of them being banned.

It just happend to be a good time because I had some spare pocket money.

No sense of urgency here. Bought before the scare. Now there seems to be a glut of these things on the market and prices are dropping.

I bought my first one in 2003, never fired it. Just wanted one before 'they' took them away. With the new 'they' in political office, I added. ;) I'd like to add more, but funds are limited, and I have to consider my priorites. I hope to add more as time progresses.

No itch, I got mine back in the early 90's, second one about 4 years later, and a new upper in 6.5 Grendel a couple of months ago.

if you like AKs classicarms.us has a good line up again with new saigas at 350, wasrs at 450, etc.

I got a sense of panic when the run started but resisted overpaying for the AR I always wanted. Lot easier when you are broke.

I am more concerned right now about ammo price and availability.

i bought one last week, not out of urgency of me feeling like they were going to be taken away, I just wanted one and i had the money so i got me one :) they are very addicting

When I didn't have one, I felt a sense of urgency.

Now that I do, I've thought about selling them to buy some nice O/U shotguns and a couple bolt rifles for hunting.

I don't have infinite time and money, and I find myself busy enough with what fun activities I am already involved in, that the black rifles sit idle and I have no desire to add some black rifle competition to my to-do list.:)

My ar-10a4cbf arrives MONDAY!!!

scope, mount, and a bunch of ammo await, then the accessorizing begins!

I bought my CMMG M4gery after Obama was elected. But I got it for around $1000, and I wanted an M4 style, my other AR is a 20"

I bought mine in oct of 08 right before the election i must admit i did buy it because of the obama thing and because it was a smoking deal. I bought it used for $780.00. I do shoot it 50 rounds every other trip to the range or club house. It was mainly bought to be, dare i say it, a "tool" if the s*** ever hit the fan here in the USA. However for my second one i will be building it piece by piece, and then "issue" it to my wife for the above reasons.:)

Building an upper is surprisingly easy, all you have to know is how to turn a wrench and maybe drive a pin. The thing that stops most people is that you also need a vise, action blocks, and the armorer's wrench, which rules out the kitchen table builders (I built my lowers on my dining room table but had to build and stock a workbench before I could assemble my first upper). The other impediment is drilling for taper pins to hold down gas blocks, but I've cheated by using handguards that protect the gas blocks and just rely on the set screws.

The other factor is that if you want a basic M4-gery type 16" carbine upper, with the front sight block, delta ring, and all that, you save basically no money over a complete upper from LMT or Bravo (e.g. complete upper, $500, or barrel assembly only, $300-$350, add $150 for upper with ejection port cover and forward assist, plus tools).

IOW, it's only worth it to build uppers if you want to build "custom" uppers with barrels and other components you hand-select.

Now that I'm good on AR's I need to buy an M1 Garand, an M1 Carbine, a Mauser 98k a Mosin M44, and a 1911. I think that will take care of me, but you never know. I'm sure I'll find something else interesting.

I like black rifles. I have 3, a Stag AR 15, Armalite AR10 A4CF and a Sig 556.

I have to wait for some cash to get some accessories and optics.

I purchased my 1st AR 15 about 2 years ago for $675. It was a CMMG M4LE. Great rifle but I have since sold it.

Yea, I've been very happy w/ my CMMG. I never heard much about them before. I usually shoot a few hundred rounds each time I go to the range. The gun is very hot, but has not once failed me.

nope, already have one. At worst, I may get one more: a 20" A2-styled rifle from Del-Ton, but that is on the low end of the list. Milsurps and a nice bolt-action for extra-long range fun, as well as a nice optic and BUIS for my current AR, are the top priorities.

edit: my AR is also a 'build', mostly of CMMG parts. Their upper was a piece of work. Too bad I haven't found good .223 in so long that I've long since forgotten what it feels like to shoot the thing :(. Overall, CMMG gives you a lot more for the price than what I was expecting.

No urgency as I already had one; but considering that CDNN is selling LE6920s for $1,199 (which is about $50 less than the pre-Obama price around here), I might pick up a few more if prices continue to drop.

I think we are about to see a major glut of ARs and some serious price competition.

There's a local dealer selling Colt 6920's for $1199. Does anyone one know of a dealer outside of Texas. I'd like to avoid sales tax.
