Any one have experience with the Romanian aks? If so what can you say about them either pro or con?

Pro: They are cheap.

Cons: They often look like were chiseled out of steel by monkeys. These 'quality' parts are often assembled in the states by other, less talented monkeys. Sometimes this assembley is so bad that the rifle won't work.

If you get one, make sure the seller has a good return policy. Mine turned out fine but I had to send the 1st one back. BSW

this was a friends second rebuild, i don,t know what parts were used. but it eats anything you put in it and shoots quite well out to 200yds(that all the range i have shot so far). he sold it to me for a song as i didn,t want it as its so fudugly. it,s now one of my main house guns,it hangs in the celler hall way under a coat ready to go. eastbank.

I got one of those. It goes bang every time I pull the trigger. Could probably hit a man-sized target out to 200 yrds. Ugly and rough as home made sin. I've also got 7 30-round mags and 6500 rounds of ammo. Bring on the zombies.:D

I have owned 2. I won't own a third. Something that explodes (bullet detonating primer) should not be wrapped in something (the Romanian AK reciever) so cheap that is that close to your face.

i have one and i love it, they are what they are and if you're looking for a bang, you've come to the right place. if you're looking for quality, look elsewhere and pay a little more. this thing is a beast, eats everything i feed it. accuracy is like any ak.

Are you saying this because something bad happend or because in your opinion something bad could happen?

Just 2 of my "G" models, and they shoot as good as they look.

I really like the look of the one on top, is that a real russian optic on the siderail mount? I went a different direction on mine but still thinking about someday buying a good scope for the side rail

Hey Moose458, what type of pistol grip are those? I want something more ergonomic but would like to stay with the red toi match the wood. Do you like 'em?

Oh, and my Romy G is so much fun. Especially with the Texas Weapoin Systems rail on top and a red dot. I can hit an approximately 15-18" chunk of steel at 300yards almost everytime with the crappy mojo open sights so it can't be TOO inaccurate. Haven't tried with the red dot.

I have just been informed that the plate is "more like 18-24" across". by my illustriuos partner in crime. Still, it's "war accurate" I say.

I've had my SAR1 for quite a few years now. It's always been reliable except for some trigger slap when I first got it. I upgraded the trigger with FSE parts and that fixed that. The finish was pretty ugly when I got it, so I Gunkoted all the metal and refinished the wood with some stain and Formsby's Tung Oil Finish.

It's been a good rifle and fun to tinker with.

Are you asking about "Made in Romania" AKs,

or

"Made in the USA out of cut up Romanian AK parts kits" AKs?

There can be a very big difference.

Lets see,i've owned:

2 SAR-1's
2 SAR-2's
2 SAR-3's
2 AES10B's
1 PSL-54C
1 WASR-22

They all worked just fine, did have 2 that had a canted front sight base.
I don't care for WASR's(have a thing for dimples),yet friends have them
and they do run fine(short loose mags).

The optic on the top "G" is a 1.5x5 Leuplod. The stock set and pistol grips were made by Scott Murphy at Gripsandstocks.com; however, I'm not sure if he is still in business. You can look for hin on AKFiles.com as lsmurphy. He does super work, I love the feel of the pistol grips.

The new WASR-10/63s are much better than the older SARs and WASRs. A lot of the old problems have been ironed out, tapco trigger eliminates trigger slap, the machining on the mag wells is much better.

Still need to check them for canted front sight blocks before you buy, but thats relatively easy to fix anyway.

You can also shim up the magazine well with aluminum or steel shims and some epoxy. Eliminates mag wobble.

Even with these issues, they still shoot every time and feed anything. If you can pick through a few and pick out a good one, they can't be beat for $300-400.

I cleaned mine up a bit, tightened up the mag well.

It is suprisingly accurate for an AK, I can consistently hit a man-sized target at 300 yds.

I bought mine in the summer of 08 for $400 off of GB-- the guy was fairly local and wanted to make sure I was happy with it after buying it. I was--

I have a Bulgarian Poly, a Pro Mag Poly, and 2 ROmanian (?) metal mags-- they all work great -- a little play with the Pro Mag, and metal ones, but the Bulgy fits great and has zero wobble. It eats anything I put in it, except it doesn't like the Winchesters as much as the Monarch/Barnaul/Silver Bear-- etc--- I have toyed with selling or trading it, but it is my "go to 'bug out' gun"-- I put an AK74 style brake, a butt stock pad/extension, and a blackjack internal buffer--- I did a little stock work on it, and will probably leave it as is--

Its a beater, and tacticool isn't my thing-- but the great thing is that you can make it look however you want...

All in all, I am happy- -it shoot pie plate accurate at 100 yards with the irons and cheapo ammo, so that works for me! Here is my WASR-10/63...

Could!

They gotta have the dimples or they're not a real AK. :neener:
My SAR has run 100% but does have the trigger slap thing. This helps save on ammo because when your trigger finger gets sore, you get the AR out.

If your going to go Romanian try to get the WASR 10/63. I have one and I no complaints about it. It has shot every time I have pulled the trigger, it has never had malfunction, it is also more accurate than I thought AK's were, I going to get a red dot scope soon and see just how good I can get her.

This info from Wikipedia has been a correct in my experience.

WASR-10/63
This designation was added by Century Arms International for marketing purposes only. WASR's with this designation are of no higher quality than any other WASR variant. Just as with all other WASR-10 rifles, these are newly manufactured with military rejected parts.[citation needed] This is not to say that they are unsafe, only that they would have caused problems when firing at full auto rates.
The 2007 GP WASR-10/63 also has an updated front trunnion with added contact support for the bolt carrier.
A WASR-10/63 with an under-folding stock was introduced into the product line in 2007.
As of 2008, there are GP WASR-10/63 rifles which are being made from demilled military rifles. Look for a triangle with arrow (some only have a triangle) on the front trunnion. Quality is much better with these.

You can have your dimples, trigger slap is reason enough not to buy. The Wasrs come with Tapco american made triggers now so no slap

Butt ugly, but sound.

They are only ugly if you make them that way. Mine came pretty dirty from the factory but it only took 1 field strip and complete clean and its a very nice gun. Too many different configurations to mention also, so theres no reason why your gun has to look ugly.
