This is my first post in the non-firearm forum, though I have many in the other sections. Anyways here's my new EDC, a Case Sodbuster Jr. What are you carrying, a sodbuster perhaps?

CV Steel

Congratulations!

That's a fine knife.

I have an older one in my jacket pocket; it's assigned to that jacket, no matter what else I'm carrying.

Yours appears to be hollow ground. Can you confirm that? (My old one is flat ground.)

Are you going to let yours develop a patina or keep it polished & shiny?

I'm not sure how to tell? I'm just getting into collecting knives. And I'll think I will just let it patina naturally as it gets used, no forced patina but no excess cleaning to prevent it.

Hollow Grind

Here's a graphic with the most common grinds:

Counting from the left, the fourth one over is a hollow grind.

Grind Gauge

If you take something flat and lay it across your blade, you'll be able to see whether you have a flat grind (no daylight) or hollow grind (wedge of daylight).

Reason I ask is that I have both.

I have CV Sod Buster Juniors that are hollow-ground, and one (older) that's flat-ground.

Just wondering what the new ones are.

I have a Case Sodbuster Jr., and I think it's a great knife. Sturdy, functional knife.

I agree, it's very sturdy. Mine's already starting to form a little patina after eating couple apples tonight.
