I see what is written here. This is directly from Double-Tap's website. How effective are these rounds for what they are saying here? I have a Ruger P-89 that I would like to carry more often in the South/Southeast woods because of capacity. But, with my .357 Magnums at hand and its capabilities...I question the claims here.

What are your opinions of its effectiveness??? Worth the investment???

9mm+P 147gr FMJ Flat Point 50rds. $36.95

This is the deepest penetrating load ever offered in 9mm! This is THE load for the woods in 9mm. The flat point helps to cut rather than move around hard objects such as bone. The tough brass jacket on the bullet helps it to keep its shape. A great backup for hunting, camping, and hiking!

Caliber : 9mm+P

Bullet : Montana Gold Full Metal Jacket Flat Point

Ballistics : 147gr @ 1135fps / 421ft. lbs. from a G17.
Glock 19 velocity - 1120fps.

I think that the DT 147gr FMJ-FP would make a decent woods load if one wanted to carry a 9mm. I personally prefer a .357 revolver as my hiking sidearm, but I wouldn't feel undergunned with 16 rounds of this in my S&W 910.

If you carry a 9mm for a woods gun this sounds like a good choice. I have been carrying a G19 in the woods for the past 6 summers while working on the property (160 acres ) in Eastern Washington. My carry round was 124gr fmj and did not feel unprotected, Cougars and Black Bears are common. I am more concerned about Cougars as the Black Bears that I have run into (one or two a summer) always go the other way, a Cougar I will probably not see until it hits me from behind. Only you can make the call as to what gun and bullet you need, any hand gun is a compromise. JMHO : Bill

These are good solid rounds for the woods if all you have is a 9mm. I bought these for my wife to carry when we hike... my preferred woods gun being a 10mm Auto. I did some penetration tests on wet phone books with these DT 147's and the results were impressive. I would not be surprised to see upwards of 3 feet of penetration in an animal. The tough brass jacket holds form and the edges of the flat point are slightly rounded to aid in proper feeding. Overall good stuff.
