Im considering a full stock cz 22 (452 i think) and a fs 550 in 308. I think they would make a good pair very similar practice/big game gun and would cover 99% of my rifle hunting needs.

Question is how do they shoot. The 22 i shoot alot and would like under 1" at 50yards. The 308 1.5-2" at 100 would be ok as long as it had consistant point of impact.

Also whats the deal with the sights i was fondling the 22 version and i would rather have a rear mounted peep and remove the factory rear sight is this possible?

I have a 452 varmint in 17 hmr. Its the most accurate rimfire I have ever shot. No experience with a 22.

the cz 452fs that I have will consistantly shoot cheap ammo under one inch at 50yds....with a good lot..and a bit of consistancy on my part, even tighter groups. I am searching for a cz550fs 308...not found one yet, but I did pick up a cz527fs...223....that is absolutely the tightest grouping rifle.....have had more than one three shot group measure less than a quarter inch at 50 yards... anyone who shoots it will aclaim!!

My 452fs in 22lr shoots quite well. It really is an excellent product, built extremely well.

The only complaint I had was that the nosecap was plastic, as is the magazine. A quick call to CZ USA and $35 later and I had a steel nosecap that went right on without any fitting or gaps.

I love mine.

I bought a CZ 550 FS in 6.5x55. It is as it came from the factory. The rifle looks like it wants to shoot really well. First load I tried was 45.5 IMR 4350 with a 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip, new WW brass, and 210M primer. At 100 yds. it looks pretty good - three 3 shot groups averaged .763", the largest being .772, smallest .720". It is very consistent. The first 2 shots touching each time with the third one a 1/2" or so out to the right. I allowed the barrel to become cold between groups. For the first and second groups, the first 2 shots of each group were .053", .185" and .190" respectively.

Looks like i can get the 22 and 308 for around 1200$. Not bad what about a reciever peep or ghost ring?

I am in the process of getting my CZ 452 Lux back from the guy I sold it to about 5 years ago (hopefully). And his foot dragging is infuriating! Needless to say I love the gun, apparently he does too.

I don't have the full stock but have the lux, american, and youth versions. They all shoot better than I ever could. I don't think you could go wrong with one of their 452s.

I don't know anything about their newer version though.

This is a 17HMR 452. The target was shot at 100M and the squares are 1". The group is "average" for this rifle at these ranges, ~1" if I do my part, the scope is a 2x7

Is that a Leupold on that 452?
I just bought a 452 Special and have a 2X7 Leupold coming, going to pair it with a set of Warne rings.

I had a 527FS in .22 Hornet that I reamed to K-Hornet.
It was accurate but not as accurate as I thought it should be so I sold it.

I have been looking for a 527 LUX Hornet to replace it and this 452 Special passed my way.

I'll post some pics if this thread is still active when I get everything together.

I was going to wander down to my range this weekend and shoot but the weatherman is threatening 6-10" of heavy snow through tomorrow so we'll see what happens.

ABout how heavy is the manlicher stock?

Would it be comfortable to carry as a woods gun or too heavy and strictly a bench gun?

Bummer, was thinking about picking up that very rifle, chambered for the Hornet no less. What was a typical group?

:)

The 452 is relatively light, 6lb 7oz on my postage scale without the scope. These are intended as heavy use rifles, not bench queens.

Well; i was looking for a reason not to buy... Im not getting any!

I did a bit more research and saw references to the 550fs having the same action size regardless of chambering. Is this still true or do they offer true short actions now? I have 308 and 30-06 in stock. If they are the same size i may as well go 06.

To the best of my knowledge they are all standard length actions (or at least they were), however the short action chamberings use a detachable magazine whereas the others have a hinged floor plate. IMO the floor plate is not only more practical (in a hunting rifle), but also suits the style better...I say go long action. If you must have a .30cal. get the .30-06Spd. (after all, that is what the .308Win. always aspired to be), but the 6.5x55mmSwede would be my first choice.

:)

MY CZ-550 full stock in 30-06 shoots 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards with most loads. I have managed to get it down to one inch with a couple of hand-loads.
Nothing exceptional, but OK.

In my opinion any sporting rifle that shoots under 2 MOA is pretty exceptional. Maybe that is more a testament to all the 30+ year old sporting rifles I have though...

Im not planning on scopping it so mechanical qccuracy of 1.5-2 would be ok.

Then I would say you're fine. ANY CZ (and most any other rifle worth its salt) should be sub-2MOA, despite drawbacks of a Mannlicher style stock.
