I'm looking to buy a revolver pretty soon, and don't know which one to get. I would rather have a 357, but I know that shooting that hot of a round out of a gun small enough to fit into your pocket would be fairly painful, or so I've heard:confused:, so i guess I would settle for a 38. Any advice would be great. Thanks

The Ruger LCR is a personal favorite of mine. It has a sweet trigger out of box. You can also get it in .357. My wife has a S&W model 442 and it shoots pretty good after I installed a Wolff spring kit in it.

Ive shot some Airweights and liked them, I would really like to get a chance at a LCR too before I decide on which one to buy. I have a SP101 and its way too heavy for a pocket gun.

Anything lightweight, short barrel, pocket carry revolver, ect is going to play havoc on your wrist. A few rounds is ok, but definitley not a range gun that your going to shoot alot. Keep that in mind if you get a chance to shoot one.

I guess I should also add that I don't really want a lcr. Call me crazy, but I'm of the opinion that a revolver shouldn't be plastic. I'm sure they are great little guns, just not for me.

im currently in love w/ a S&W Bodyguard .38, has a built in insight laser if needed and handles real well, feels great

My pocket snubbie has been a Colt Cobra for the past few years. I love having six shots in a revolver that weighs the same as a five shot Smith Airweight.

Desantis Nemesis is what I use, and have used for about 4 years now. It works pretty good. I think Milt Sparks makes a nice pocket holster as well.

I'm getting a Tarus .32 H&R. It's like 16 oz. Not sure if it's light enough for pocket carry.
It holds 6 shot of .32 magnum. That's 20% more firepower than 38spl J frame.

LCR357 with Tamer Grip, 17 oz. hand canon. You can shot 357 with no pain. Don't get me wrong it still kicks but, it doesn't hurt. I is one of the most accurate Snubs that I have ever shot. If you choose not to shoot full house 357s, 38+P is a breeze. As for the trigger you will not fined anything smoother or lighter. I love my 442 Smith for pocket carry but, the LCR Ruger is more enjoyable to shoot. The Tamer Grip is a tad bigger in the pocket but, not that bad unless you ware tight pants.

I would also like to know if y'all carry them in pocket holsters. Any brands that I should stay away from?
YES!! Carry in a pocket holster, no matter what it is.

I've tried several and this is the best I've found ... and dang if it wasn't one of the least expensive as well!!

I actually pocket carry a Taurus 450 (5 round 45 Colt) in one of these, no problemo.

I don't find the need for .357 in a pocket pistol. I like the .38 +P just fine.

Right tool for the job. I don't take a wrecking ball to rework my hounds dog house and I don't take tweezers when I need to re-roof the barn.

That being said. Shoot a LCR .38. And shoot ANY other light weight .38.

You'll see.

If you can't do this (I lucked out and was at the range the morning I was shopping) then you have to take my word as an honest, non brand loyal soul.

The LCR rocks. And the .357 is about .4 oz heavier. Not worth it in a sub com rev.

You'll love it!

I carry a S&W 340 M&P and I love it. Pocket carries like a dream at <15 oz. It handles .357, but I've only ever shot 4 of them through it.

The lighter the gun, the harder the recoil.

While it doesn't "always" work that way, it does 99.9% of the time.
So a small pocketable .357 is gonna not be a lot of fun.

The way to get around that is to get a S&W Model 60, or a Ruger SP101.
They're both a too heavy to pocket carry with sweatpants, but will do well with an IWB holster. And you can always use 38 spl ammo at the range.

I started out about a year ago thinking about pocket CC in terms of a small 9mm pistol. My wife uses a Taurus 9mm Slim for HD, so that looked like a great option. I figured I'd maybe buy a second one for pocket carry. But I ran into trouble trying to get it to meet my three requirements:

1. It has go into the pocket - check.
2. It has to disappear inside the pocket - pretty much check.
3. It has to come cleanly out of the pocket - big problem.

I foolishly tried all of the usual pocket holsters but the Taurus Slim's rear sights snag on the top of my pocket every-single-time. I don't know if the slightly smaller Kahr KM9 or CM9 would do any better -- does anyone have any info on that?. (The technique I practice is to casually put my hands in my pockets once I sense trouble, get a firm grip on the piece and, if a decision regrettably has to be made to shoot, yank the piece out and present it in a fraction of a second in an attempt to gain surprise and get off the first good shot.)

The only cure I could come up with was to add a down and back movement before the yank in order for the front sights to clear the top front of the pocket. But that didn't work too well with all of my pants, and I experienced many practice failures - more than enough to instill a great deal of worry about how clean a yank I could get in a crunch.

Long story short: I fixed the whole problem by going wheelgun with a S&W Model 638. (A 642 would have been just fine as well.) It easily meets all three requirements plus one more:

4. It needs to come out of the pocket without the holster - check

I have practiced my pocket draw and can present from a hand in pockets position and fire the first shot in a twinkling of the eye. Moreover I have full confidence in it working every time.

My set up is: S&W 638
Ammo: Corbon DPX 38 special +P 110 gr
Pocket holster: Uncle Mike's size 4
Crimson Trace

My favorite pocket revolver is a Model 12 S&W. I wear loose carpenter jeans 90% of the time and with a good pocket holster and boot grips it works great. The K-Frame is a bit big for tighter pants however.

If I were looking for one today I think I would give serious consideration to the new S&W Bodyguard.

I have tried most of the s&W Configurations in Models; 637, 422, 38, m12, 19 even the 44 special 296!
I Keep coming back to my old trusty model 37.
For a pocket holster I use an uncle mike's IWB with the clip removed.

J, you've got the banana grip in Goncalvo Alves! That's the second set of those I've seen. My 642 wears the other set.
