Hello All,

Can anyone suggest some ranges in the South Florida Area (ideally near north Broward) where one can setup targets other than paper? I keep reading about how fun it is to shoot soda cans, gallon jugs, etc on this forum :)....shooting paper targets is getting a bit monotonous...

Pop's on HWY27 used to be like that. Haven't been there in years though.

Never been there myself, but I think Pop's is a close as you'll get. Here's a link... http://popsrange.com/

You can also go to meetup.com and join South Florida Shooter's group for free. They have meet-ups and group shoots in Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade counties. You will get e-mail notifications of planned meet-ups. They occasionally meet at Pop's.

South Florida Tactical Firearms Club.

We rent the Markham LEO range and the Trail Glades LEO range once a month.
The TG shoot is $20.00 pp. and we have the range from 1-5. You can shoot whatever you want as long as it is safe (no tannerite/exploding targets) and you clean up after yourself. If you want to shoot your hated office printer with a full-auto have at it.

We rent Markham for the full day and hire an instructor (usually an officer from the Miami PD training bureau) so it is more expensive (usually $100) and there is an agenda and a course of fire. August 20th, we are doing an AR 15 class.

We are all working professionals and can safely handle weapons, If you are interested PM me.

I`m not aware of any "certified ranges" that let you blast away on cans, jugs, bottles,what-ever . Call around and ask.

Anyone knows of a "free, or low cost" one in the "Treasure coast", area Please let me know. Being forced to retire has made it difficult to afford to shoot regularlly anymore. Even an hour with 2 boxes of ammo is over $60-75 bucks, for any of the popular calibers. I used to go once a week for 40 years, but unfortunatelly those days are over. Now when I have a few extra bucks, i'll just go stock up on ammo.

I'll second Pop's range. Been going there for over a year. You can shoot whatever you want as long as you can carry it out afterward.

Update: Shooting at soda cans is no longer permisible at Pop's. Seems that shooters were not picking up after themselves and the sharp remains of the cans where becoming a hazard to the trainers and students on the range. Bummer! You can still shoot at plastic bottles and pretty much anything else....

There are designed plastic targets that will hold together with repeated impacts. Those are better choice than beverage containers from a litter management POV. Probably an easier sell to range operators, esp if you had some of the associated product literature for them to read.

If you do shoot soda cans, word to the wise: get diet. No sugar/corn syrup means a little less sticky mess. And shake 'em up real good for a big ol' blast!

there is one in ocala off of 41 i believe is the road. they ask not to but no one really cares.
Ocala is a loooooong way from south FL! I lived north of Orlando and went there often. A very boring 1.5hr drive, one way.

Is Markham the one off the palmetto?
Markham is off I-595. Exit at SW 136 Ave which will take you west a little further and the park is on the right (north). It is a huge park and the range is on the backside of the park.

Tin cans like soup and such seem to hold up much better than aluminum cans. My son and I shoot them all the time. They really don't make much of a mess and are easy to pick up afterwards.

A cheap tarp or two laid out on the ground can really help at cleanup time if you plan to make a big mess.

Sincerely,

The Voice of Experience

Well, most of North Port Charlotte used to be one. If anyone hears a gun in the glades they will most likely call the police.
