Is there a website that tells where I can go target shooting out in the wilderness? When I was in Miami, there were a half a dozen areas to take your guns and a bunch of soda cans, watermelons, and shaving cream cans and have a blast, literally. I am sick and tired of shooting at paper cutouts! I was actually told to take down a target at one range because it had a picture a person holding a hostage ("too violent"). I want to once again see a cabbage's reaction to .357 JHP. or perhaps watch a coke can take flight from a 7.62. We always used to bring a truck and clean up our mess and we never dumped any washing machines or the like out there so why not? I am now in the Denver, CO area and no one will tell me where the cool shooting spots are. There has to be some around here somewhere, I mean I can drive for 15 minutes and be in the middle of nowhere and there's no place within a hour or so that will let me just shoot and have fun? I have been shooting for many years and always practice safely (no drinking or screwing around with firearms) so if there's a blog or website, pleeeaaassssse let me know.

I think most people are protective of this knowledge due to not wanting other swarming the area and/or vandalizing it. I used to know areas near to Palm Springs in CA but sadly they seem all now closed. If anyone could tell me of such an area within 100-120 miles of Los Angeles that they were certain was an open easily accesable by car legal open shooting area I'd be eternally grateful!

I don't have an answer for you, but would you mind telling me where in Miami?

You can PM me if you don't want to post them in the thread.

I've been under the impression that no such places exist in South Florida unless you live in Florida City and have your own land.

Too many years ago

It was too long ago that I was in Miami to remember exactly but I'm sure the land has been made into condos by now. It was just south of SW 88th street on Krome ave. I hear they have been building home out past Krome for years now so it's probably kaput. Sorry:(

Yeah, paper punching can become a bit boring. I want to find a range where I can destroy some solid targets with some 50 BMG AP (engine blocks, concrete, etc).

Right here

Its in Okeechobee County Florida. There is some controversy as to whether or not you still shoot here. I was stopped about 5 years ago by a fish and game officer and he didn’t have a problem with me shooting as long as I was picking up my stuff. I haven’t been here in the last two years since all of my guns anymore are NFA weapons of some type. I don’t care if I get a Soviet Nigant rifle taken away, but would have a big problem saying goodbye to my pre 86 full auto MAC 10.

There used to be a place down in Ft. Lauderdale called “Pops”. You could shoot anything you wanted there. “Pops” passed away a couple years ago and it is now a private range as far as I know. I had my first NFA experience with a man by the name of Nick Ward at this range. He let me shoot all of his guns and wouldn’t take any money for ammo. Unfortunately I hear he has passed on also.

Best targets for such situations: go to a dollar store and buy fake Saltines crackers, 200 for a buck. Set 'em up against a good backstop, blast away, when done the local critters will love 'em.

I really like the idea of organic targets. Keeps the outdoors clean. Hope it becomes a trend so us shooters don't get a bad name.

In FL try finding a state game range. There's a public range up in Ocala that allows any targets but no glass or explosives.
Im still getting the tight lips from folks here in TX. The newest range I found is loosely monitored and has signs posted to only shoot paper targets. I've started shooting range litter (styrofoam and plastic ammo blocks, ammo boxes, shotgun shells) because not many will notice I'm not actually shooting at the paper, its already there, and its reactive.

Please pay attention to the OP entire post:

The Dragon Man to the East of Colorado Springs has some nice facilities. Also a decent gun smith and sells as well.

Problem is worse here in Central Florida. Outdoor ranges have been closing like crazy. Most of the existing ranges are in danger of closing due to housing encroachment. Most will not let you shoot anything more than paper anymore.

I can easily see the day where there will be no more outdoor ranges anywhere in Central Florida. Then it will be time for me to move.

There is one range near Tampa that will I hear, but that is a few hours drive for me.

So,how many gar fish did ya 'take out' while out in the 'Glades.??
I used to live there up until about 1959,and we'd shoot almost every weekend.
Used to get gvt. surplus...as I recall...16 guage buckshot realllly cheap at Bullseye gunshop, and hit the 'Trail.

Sorry , had to remenisce, but can't help ya on a place to shoot.

Oh the humanity! Think of all the lead poisoning those critters will get from the transfer! :D
