My scratched up model 10 and somewhat newer model 64 are among my favorite guns to shoot, but I'm wondering how many people count on guns like these for concealed carry on a more or less regular basis?

Their size is not as convenient as smaller guns, but most of my smaller guns don't place shots quite as accurately. And my larger model 14's or 4 inch Highway Patrolman are definitely out. Opinions?

Winter is a little easier with the heavier clothing, but what about summer? Does anyone carry one of these in summer? If so, what are your clothing and holster choices? THANKS

Greetings
When up north there I have a Tuarus Titanium 4" 41 mag I am very happy to tote around. Down here I carry a Colt Police Pos. 38 Special 4 " with a Hip-Grip on it. It is a toss-up between that Colt and a 2" 38 Special that gets out with me.

4" GP100 in a Rob Leahy (Simply Rugged) Pancake with a blazer or light jacket. Nice fit, comfortable, secure and with a respectable self defense tool available if required.

S&W M-65 4" most of time, on occasion a S&W M-646 4". Usually wear a vest in winter and an un-tucked shirt in summer. Keep shootin'

I will go spells when I want to carry a 4" "just because" and will do it for a week or two at a time. When I do, I carry whichever model strikes my fancy in a Tex Shoemaker pancake. All I need to conceal it is a t-shirt tail. The holster holds the gun close to my side and has it ride fairly high up.

I carry a 4" Ruger Police Service Six quite a bit using a FIST #20 IWB holster. Summer or winter, doesn't matter. I can even conceal it when wearing shorts and a baggy t-shirt. The rest of the time I carry a 2.5" S&W 66 or ...

4 inch Highway Patrolman are definitely out

I manage to carry my 4" HP on a fairly regular basis. My lower back has been bugging me lately, so I've not carried recently. But it is doable with a quality belt and holster, and baggy shirts with a pattern. I carry mine IWB with a Lobo Gunleather rig.

The closest I've come is openly carrying a 4" Colt Python or Smith 629 for up to a week at a time while hiking. With a good holster you do get used to the weight & bulk, but you never forget that you're packing.

My own opinion is that a 4" medium revolver is a bit big for daily wear. I think I'd prefer a 3" small-framed gun like a model 60 or SP101.

I've toyed with the idea of getting a 4-5" Charter Arms revolver, specifically their Bulldog or Police Bulldog. They don't appear to weigh much despite their long barrels. 5 shots of .44 spl or 6 shots .38+p would be pretty good defense, but I've never seen either of these guns in person, and I refuse to buy a gun sight unseen.

My everyday carry is a well-worn 1966 Model 10 4" in an IWB. I don't find it oversize at all... I know it's there, but it's not uncomfortable. It conceals well under an untucked polo or button up shirt.

And I sure trust it.

I used to. I probably needed to get a better concealment holster and belt, but my wife was always commenting that I was printing, so I got a smaller gun and started carrying it. It was, and is, usually more convenient.

I have a 3" K frame now, and sometimes CC it. It is easier to get along with, even though it's just an inch shorter, because the length of the barrel suits my build better, so it's more tolerable, and it's a round-butt, so the butt prints less than the square butt on my old model 10.

I've had no problems concealing a 4" NYPD spec 64 in an IWB by Elmer McEvoy of the leather arsenal in days past. They really aren't any harder to conceal than a service auto. That said, I'm too lazy to bother with either. An SP101 will do the trick. So will the 10/12/64 snubs, though I've found that the SP shoots a bit faster, all else being equal.

Thanks for the input. I replaced the oversized pachmyrs on the 64 and the scratched up standard issue grips on the 10 with brand new trad. S&W wood grips. They look old timey and have a smaller profile than rubber grips and are noticably thinner than the old wood grips so they show up less under clothing. That helps. Also, they're made of diamondwood, so they're hard to scratch and damage.

I'll check out the holsters you mentioned, Thanks folks.

Sidheshooter, I wish I could find model 64 snubbies, but they seem to be somewhat rare, for me, anyway.

I've started carrying my SP 101 3" in a pancake type holster, never now its there.

jdmb03, Thanks for the website on Grizzle holsters, he has one exactly like I'm looking for! Appreciate the info.
