After all the hoopla attending the 1911's centennial last year, it is perhaps disappointing to note the .375 Holland and Holland Magnum is celebrating its 100th anniversary almost silently this year.

As far as know, only H&H itself is celebrating, with the offering of 25 "Centenary" rifles.

The price is £ifyouhavetoask. ;) I note no other special rifles or celebrations--not even anything else by H&H themselves.

Oh, well, no matter. It was true 100 years ago, and still true today: One planet, One rifle--.375 H&H.

That's a beautiful rifle. Mine isn't nearly as nice, but it is a Magnum Mauser and cost a Hell of a lot less.

:D Maybe we should pester ruger, or lipesys. I cant really pester anybody, since as much as id like to have a centennial .375, I couldnt buy one.

Both of those are a lot prettier than mine. I have a Model 70 Winchester stainless steel (Pre '64 type action) in a synthetic stock with a Leopold 1-4x "shotgun" scope on it. It is an interesting (to me, at least) mixture of the old and new. With some carefully hoarded Winchester 270 gr silver tip factory loads, it will print 1.25" Center-to-Center three shot groups. It is ready for Africa if I ever get to go.

There maybe others who do something special. Browning has A & X-Bolt Medallion Open Sight rifles in 375 H&H, Winchester has the M70 Safari Express in 375 H&H, and CZ/Ruger/Chapuis have some reasonably price 375 H&H rifles. We might see something at shot show, but thats a big if.

The 375 H&H broke the ground for nearly every cartridge since 1912. Any modern belted magnum can almost trace its inception directly back to the 375 H&H. The only cartridge that rivals the old H&H in derivatives, and it might be a tie, is the 416 Rigby or 404 Jefferies. I think alot of the lack of fanfare is that almost no one anymore can handle shooting a 375 H&H. Heck, most people start to whine when they shoot something with more umph to it than the 30-06.

I'd love to have a 375 H&H (although I have absolutely no use for it) and it's cool that it's made 100 this year. I'm sure there will be some centennial ammo or something.

My brother (up in Alaska) really likes that 375... he's got three of them and uses them for everything except sheep. Caribou, moose, etc the 375 is his standard field rifle. They haven't bought meat from a supermarket now for more than 30 years....

i bought a 375 the year rem had them in the 700 classic i think it was 95 0r 96 decided it was way more bang than i needed and traded it for a 300 win mag. if i was in big bear country i would definately have kept it.

Last year, I had a more modern interpretation of the .375 H&H custom built on a Remington 700 platform from the action up:

With my 300 grain Nosler Partition handloads, it will do this with a 1-5x20mm scope @ 100 yards:

The .375 H&H still has it's place in a modern hunter's arsenal and will continue to have one for the forseeable future.

Six-Gun, sweet custom lefty Rifle! Nice group on that target as well :) .

I can only hope that Holland & Holland will be around long enough to to make centennial .300 H&H rifles....

Hey, I can dream, can't I ? ;) :) .

Oh, it was fixed, alright. Do you know how hard it is to find a lefty gun outside of a handful of manufacturers in anything other than a vanilla setup in a vanilla caliber?? :banghead: :D

That gun started life as a brand new, bone stock, lefty Remington 700 SPS in .300 Win Mag. I immediately had the gunsmith throw that piece of junk, injection-moulded nightmare Remington tries to pass off as a stock these days, in the trash and put a H-S Precision on it. Did the same with the barrel: swapped the factory tube out for a Shilen and then a million little tweaks to the firing chain and mounting system after that.

I've been looking to get a .375 H&H.

Cabela's is offereing what they call a "Model 70 High-Grade Safari .375 H&H". They specifically state that they are offering it as follows:

"In honor of this milestone anniversary, Cabela’s and Winchester proudly offer this exclusive, limited-edition Model 70."

The .375 H&H is the worlds most versatile rifle. And it's a dream to shoot every one that I've ever owned has been scary accurate. They got everything right when they designed this one.

You've got that right, H&H hunter. It's incredible to see superior accuracy out of a belted case magnum. When you shooting around .5 MOA with a big bore gun, you're probably way outclassing its intended purpose. I don't know how you feel, but that's fine with me. :)
