Here's a 1944 VKT (made on a 1894 Chatellerault receiver the Soviets were nice enough to donate to the Finns ;) ).

Here's a representative from Sweden, my M38 Husqvarna made in 1941. Quite a few forum members gave me some great advice before I bought it, so here it is. Thanks again for all the help :D .

Sorry, I don't have anything from Norway, so maybe some else can help this thread out. . .

Also, notice the coloring of the barrel on the B Barrel vs. the VKT. The B Barrel is plum colored (it's not rust ;) ) so it's kinda a neat little variant on a very accurate rifle. BTW, all three of these rifles shoot very well :D .

Of course Finland counts! The first two rifles are Finnish ;) . And a message for you shy guys and gals who are looking but not posting, "It doesn't have to be milsurp. Anything by Sako, Tikka, Carl Gustaff, Valmet, or anything I left out is fine." C'mon, I know someone has a Norwegian Krag. . .

Heck, I'll even open it up to Danish Garands, with or without VAR barrels. ;) You Dane lovers need more chances to show off your stuff, right? :D

1899 Carl Gustaf M96 Mauser with Finnish [SA] property mark. One of the few Swedish Mausers to actually be used in combat.

Still looking for a Finn Mosin

I love these kind of threads.

Of course, they always make my heart beat fast...

Great looking guns.

Beetle,

What is a "VAR" barrel? I have a Danish Garand and the barrel is marked VAR, but I don't know what that means. (I think it's a Danish Garand - the receiver is marked Springfield Armory, but it has VAR on the barrel...)

Thanks,
Steve

Finland really isn't part of Scandinavia.

Darn it, Nightcrawler, I studied Literature in College, not Geography  . Sorry to all you Finns out there. Okay, this is now a Scandinavian/Finnish/Danish picture thread ;) .

IINM, a VAR barrel is a Danish barrel on a Garand. After WWII, we loaned some of our Garands to Denmark for their armed forces. As the barrels got worn out, the Danes replaced them with their own VAR barrels. When they no longer needed the Garands, they returned them to us "as is" i.e. with all the replacement parts still on them. So that means now you have to post a picture of your Danish Garand with the VAR Barrel. Also, I have no idea what VAR stands for. BTW, how does it shoot? I've reserved a space in my cabinet for a Garand some day and would be happy with a Danish Garand.

Thanks to all that replied. Great looking stuff :D .

Gewehr98 Okay, you have permission to post a pic of the AG42-B, but it has to be a new picture of it we haven't seen yet :neener: .

GD That's the uncommon Tikka MN 91/30? I've never seen one in person before. . .Other than different (and IMO much better looking) wood for the stocks, are they any different than the Russian-made MN 91/30's?

Third_Rail Thanks for the compliments. When I took the Swede apart to clean out all the cosmoline, I got to see first-hand how meticulous those Swedish gunmakers are ;) . Little "tilted crown proofmarks" on everything. I stopped counting them when I got into the teens. Definately first-class stuff.

DMK Nice tigerstriping on the handguard of the "Late Date, No Maker" M39  .

HarryB My M38 shows no signs of having been used in combat, but an ant did crawl inside the barrel of it and get stuck in the grease, so I know it's taken a life  .

BamBam-31 That thing's just beggin' for a nice bayo :D .

atek3 Dunno if it's my PC (it's been doing some pretty annoying stuff to me lately) but I can't see your picture.

I don't see atek3's picture either

Okay, then the PC can live. I was just thinking, "Hmmm. . .this PC is giving me lots of grief and Oh, by the way, I just remembered that I haven't shot my SKS in a while. . .:D "

(Note: don't try this at home. Never shoot your PC, ever!)

Hahaha... It's battle proven!

Scandinavia + Finland = Fenno-Scandia. We happily mix the two terms in a geopolitical and historical context, so there should be no problem with using just Scandinavia when not in a purely geographical discussion... dang this is serious. :scrutiny: :D

BTW, there are some extremely fine examples of very well-kept birch furniture on this thread. Lovely.
