For some reason 40s&w cases are not properly aligning with the sizer/deprimer die on the Hornady LnL. The case seems pushed away from the shellplate and sometimes the case mouth is tipped to the point that the case mouth hits the bottom of the die. When not properly aligned, the case forms a crease near the bottom. Refer to the following picture.

Any idea what's causing this?

Looks like it is almost about to crush the case. Are you using the right shell plate/ shell holder? Is it over rotating or anything like that?

Using shell plate #10, which is indexing properly. The mouth of the shell tips outward slightly. Acts like something is pushing it out or the case is to big.

Depending on how many loads you have shot through the case and chamber support, it may be slack left over from bulged brass. Some of my. 40 brass which is glocked ends up that way sometimes. Don't shoot it if it looks that way.

Could just be a bad die. Adjusting the sizer up some may eliminate it. The farther down you size the more brass it is trying to move with the pressure that comes with it.

Has the case gone "under" the spring yet? If not, the case will tip outward a little. If you go too slow, the case is not as apt to pop under the spring at station 1.

Put a straight edge on the shell plate and confirm it is flat. I have had 1 that was not and was replaced. If not flat it will cause the brass to tilt. A loose shell plate will cause the brass to tilt too, spring getting to high on rim.

Are you having any depriming or seating problems indicating the brass is not in proper alignment?

I called Hornady about this and said it's either a component or an alignment issue. To distinquish the difference, was told to remove the spring to see if the problem continues to occur. In addition, the problem could also be contributed by ammunition shot in a Glock, which creates a bulge the shape of a half moon.

Will post the solution when its narrowed.

You might also check to see if the primer is seated fully. If not it might be rocking on the primer.

Do you load any other calibers on this press? If so, do you have the same problem when sizing. I had a problem with my 45 ACP but all other worked fine. I had to send my sizing die in for adjustment which fixed problem.

Yeah, so far I load 4 calibers on this press. Haven't had any trouble with the others.

Checked this yet? Sounds like what Hornady is asking you to check by saying to try it without the spring.

I removed the spring and had a problem with 1 case. I don't think its an equipment issue. I believe the cases are over-expanded. The ones that creased appear be bulged on one side. Hornady said this is a problem with some glocks.

Will reload again next week. Will post results.

If what you are trying to say is you have run thousands of brass through this die with no problem until now, it obviously is not the die. Good luck with the solution.
