If I am researching correctly they are essentially the same gun with fixed sights, and chambering being the differences.
Date of manufacture and sight options figure in but chambering seems to be the deciding factor which model it is.
Is this correct?

Security Six - Square Butt Grip, Adjustable Sights
Service Six - Square Butt Grip, Fixed Sights
Speed Six - Round Butt Grip, Fixed Sights

All were available in either blued or stainless.

Most were .357 Mag chambering, however, they could be had in .38 special chambering as well.

I saw some CHP trade-ins once that were chambered for .38 special.

Speed Sixes in 9mm are tough to come by, I saw one yesterday at a show that the guy had a $900 price tag on it.
Early (pre-151 serial number prefix) Security Sixes had a slightly different grip frame design called "Low Backs". Ruger redesigned the series to bring the shooters hand higher in the grip to reduce felt recoil starting with serial number prefix 151. Low Backs have far less aftermarket grip options and are very difficult to find. Security Sixes pre-151 also came with fixed sights.
Good, solid guns.

My daily carry is a "low back." Great gun. A shame Ruger dropped the Six line.

the 380 were British 380 what we call 38 S&W or 38 short if I am not mistaken. Again I have been reading about them and am not certain I am absorbing all the information about them.
Finding a Speed Six in Brit 380 or 38 S&W would be cool but impractical because the rounds are spendy compared to 38 special

They are worth the research and the money. I have two 357 Security Sixes and one 38 Service Six.

Smaller than the GP (easier to pack), but still strong as heck. They are in-between the GP and SP using the same speed loader as the Smith K-frame.

I just got back from camping and had my trusty Security Six by me the whole time. They have dethroned my SP as my most carried/packed revolver. One extra shot but still easy on the hip.

I'm a big fan of the Six-Series revolver and I bought one. It's a short barrel Service-Six in .357 Magnum. It's a great carry gun if you don't mind the weight. (but I mind the weight)

I just got back from FFL this morning with this beauty. It may well just put away for my 8 year old son. Grab Sixes while you can!
