Old model Ruger Police Service Six..

Were these ever factory chambered in .357? I've seen several in .38 but I was of the understanding that the Security Six and the Police Service Six were virtually the same with the exception on the fixed sights and .38spl only for the Service Six.

In short.. Was the fixed sight Police Service Six ever chambered in .357?

I imagine Old Fuff will be along shortly, but I'm pretty sure the Service Six was chambered in .357 mag. In fact, I always thought the .38 special edition of that gun was a special request; I thought the .357 was the company prescribed chambering. I had a security six for several years, excellent gun; durable, easy to break down for cleaning, and an all-around excellent revolver.

Yes, the Ruger Police Service Six was chambered for the 357 magnum. Here is mine.

I have a pair of stainless Service sixes in .357 - a 3" (1988) and a 4" (1982), I've seen plenty in .357 but have never seen one in .38

The 38s were made for those agencies that specifically stated the gun had to be chambered in 38 spl only (like NYPD). They are so durable in 357 I guess the only part you will never wear out in 38 is the grips.

As Griz22 said, most are .357 magnum. The .38s were special order only for either LEA's, the military and perhaps larger security companies. In any event the ordering agency had to be ordering enough of them to make it worth Ruger's time to bother.
